Darby Laying Groundwork for Democrat Coalition [TX] Speaker Run

The race to replace departing Texas House Speaker Speaker Joe Straus (R–San Antonio) at the dais may soon have a new candidate in State Rep. Drew Darby (R–San Angelo).

Darby was a fixture of Straus’ leadership team, helping head a coalition that combined Democrats and establishment Republicans to obstruct conservative reforms.

During his 12 years in the Texas House, the lawmaker has repeatedly earned failing grades on the Fiscal Responsibility Index.

Although new House Republican Caucus rules were passed so that Republican members could united around a candidate for speaker instead of allowing the Democrats to dictate their leader, Darby has refused to pledge to support the Republican caucus process. And it appears Darby is using his campaign contributions to build a minority group of Republicans who could vote with the Democrats to elect him as speaker, the same method by which Straus took office initially in 2009.

Although the Texas Legislature and Executive Branch is overwhelming Republican, a coalition of all Democrats joined by enough RINOs to form a majority, have continually elected RINO Joe Straus as the Speaker of the House since 2009. Thus, the Democrats, through Straus, have been able to block conservative initiatives and reforms. RINO Darby is attempting to build a similar coalition to become speaker so that Democrats will be able to continue to block conservative initiatives and reforms.

There has to be a coalition because there is no minority party in the House.

There is no minority leader to appoint, in this case democrats, to the committee on which they serve. Minority members, like the majority members, are appointed by the Speaker.

RINOs are really Democrats in terms of wanting big government control. We conservatives have to acknowledge that we are a minority even in states that are supposedly Red.

If it worked the first time... The party caucus needs to crack down on this, though. Anyone who supports a non-approved nominee will be stripped of party credentials and will be regarded as a Democrat. They did that here in TN with the apostate RINO who agreed to serve as a puppet Speaker for Boss Naifeh.

What outstanding statesmen in the TX legislature. Things would be soooooooooooo much better if we abolished the 17th amendment and let those guys select the U.S. Senators for the state of Texas. < / sarcasm>

Yeah, really. Some folks are truly desperate to never have a Conservative ever elected again to the Senate.

I find it interesting how the anti-17thers love to scoff at FReepers in RAT-majority states and just sneer that we should “move to a conservative state”, while ignoring the FACT that solidly “conservative” states like Texas, Utah, Tennessee, Alaska, etc., have worthless RINOs running their legislatures and backroom deals being made all the time to appease the RATs.

They are completely AWOL on threads like this that demonstrate that point.

I guess facts are pesky things.

I feel confident in predicting that enough RINOs would join with rats to elect “moderates” to the majority of GOP seats. Lisa Murkowski would become the typical GOP Senator.

The states would have one simple task in mind in electing their Senators: Get as much $$ from the treasury as possible for their state. No fiscal Conservative would EVER be elected again with a 17th repeal. It would be moronic, because if you passed on a spending bill for your state claiming it was too expensive, it would just mean more for all the rest.

No need to even call them Senators, their new title should just be “Looter.” You have the Senior Looter from California and the Junior Looter from California and so forth.
