Jesus wasn't white: he was a brown-skinned, Middle Eastern Jew. Here's why that matters

I grew up in a Christian home, where a photo of Jesus hung on my bedroom wall. I still have it. It is schmaltzy and rather tacky in that 1970s kind of way, but as a little girl I loved it. In this picture, Jesus looks kind and gentle, he gazes down at me lovingly. He is also light-haired, blue-eyed, and very white. The problem is, Jesus was not white.

The Gospels might not have said, but Isaiah’s prediction of the Messiah is as follows:

Isaiah 53:

1 Who has believed our report?
And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?

2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant,
And as a root out of dry ground.
He has no form or comeliness;
And when we see Him,
There is no beauty that we should desire Him.

3 He is despised and rejected by men,
A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.
And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him;
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

Doesn’t matter since His description upon His return is quite different than the one on the cloth and what does matter is that He said He is God’s Son.

The author states this with authority and surety that only a liberal can have about things of which they 'know' nothing.

I don't know what Jesus looked like and I don't even 'know' that He was the Son of God, but I do BELIEVE that he was and don't care what he looked like.

Jesus was not a Jew. He was of Semitic origin as most of the middle easterners are.

Jesus was probably not Nordic in appearance.

Neither did he resemble a sub-Saharan African, nor did He have any level of Central/South-American ancestry (the common definition of “brown” in current American society). He was about as tanned as anybody else in the Middle East.

Jews are Caucasion. Whether that’s considered white or not depends on where you live.

In America, for several decades, it was a simple (caucasion = white) but that seems to be changing again.

“This author is pushing racial categories....”.....

To my understanding, Jesus isn’t and was not about “race”!

Jesus’ skin color only matters to those who think primarily in terms of a person’s skin color.

It is a problem to modern Christ hating society that looks for every reason to hate Him.

This author makes a lot of assumptions.

Caucasians spread throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Southern Asia. In all of these places, they have a full range of coloration, with lighter people predominating in the north and darker people in the south.

We don’t know what Jesus looked like. We can only surmise that he had physical features that would have been found in that area of the world at that time.

I was going to post this if no one else did.

I picked the Confirmation name Veronica because I was captivated by the apocryphal story in which she receives a picture of Jesus. Of course it doesn’t matter. I knew that even then.

But still, people shouldn’t lie about it.

Another feeble attempt to mainstream brown skinned middle easterners and minimize or sideline whites.

It doesn’t matter what was or is on the outside.

It’s what is on the inside that counts.

Even grade school kids a couple of generations ago understood this.

Now many adults don’t seem to be able to grasp the idea.

Jesus was lily-white. Total cracker. Caucasian as you can get. Not one drop of mulatto blood.

He also benefited from Jesus-Privilege.

I.personally, can easily believe that Jesus looked far more like Yasir Arafat than like me.I also have no problem with Africans depicting Christ as black,Europeans depicting Him as white...etc,etc.

And I have no doubt that Jesus Himself has no problem with that either.

No Jesus wasn't about race and it doesn't matter. People get their panties in a wad about it without realizing that “race” is a political category not a biological one.
The reality of Jesus was that he was a middle eastern Jew. In the biological category that's Caucasian, in geography, that's Asian. The Caucasian part doesn't tell you anything about his skin hue, it could be dark brown to pretty light. I'm guessing Jesus looked like other Jews in that place and time, in the middle.

If he wasn't a Jew why was he celebrating the Passover at the Last Supper
