Believe it or not, John Kasich matters

It is not immediately evident why anyone, or at least anyone outside Ohio, should care much about what John Kasich says or thinks.

The lame-duck governor has already run for president twice and lost. He's not a particularly charismatic or appealing figure. And to the extent most people in America know who he is, it's probably from his role as a marginal and somewhat irritating participant in the 2016 Republican primaries. To those in need of a refresher, he was the one who kept talking about how his dad was a mailman.

Still, the guy clearly thinks of himself as a national figure, and whatever else you can say about him, he has a knack for getting on television. Right now, he's in the process of reintroducing himself as that great rarity of politics, the Sensible Moderate Republican, a species long thought extinct outside of minor ecosystems like Vermont and Massachusetts.

But unlike your typical SMRs, Kasich will never be happy as a merely regional attraction. He wants to be president, and he's not really hiding it, what with his seemingly endless march through the greenrooms of Washington and New York. His top adviser, the liberal Republican strategist John Weaver, isn't playing coy either, and spends his days trashing Donald Trump on Twitter. In the wake of the Parkland shooting, Team Kasich was even caught updating his website to make it less stridently pro-gun. Needless to say, this is not the behavior of man who expects to retire from politics when his term ends next year.

‘Sensible Moderate Republican’

How about left leaning RINO?

Maybe, but serious candidates have people quietly working donors and early states already.

Kasich’s campaign people John Weaver and Beth Hansen aren’t working anywhere on anyone.

I believe he’s just a NSM ‘candidate’ looking for a commentator job.

Yeah, and cancer matters too.

But it isn’t good for anyone either.

There real danger is what Kasich is trying to pull with the Ohio Republican Party Central committee. He’s trying to get Matt ‘the weasel’ Borges reinstalled as chair.
Needless to say, there’s resistance.

It’s bout this time that plans start being laid.

When an organization’s ground game controls a turf, it doesn’t matter who the candidate is. If the thousands of FReepers and thousands of Pro-Life activists and thousands of 2d Amendment activists and thousands of Tea Party and other conservative activists really want to win, they would build a ground game that did not depend on a candidate.

Of course, having a good candidate sure motivates the boots on the ground.

2018 primary should be used to build the boots on the ground, regardless of who the candidates are.

2018 final to score some points with victories for Senate and House in a few places.

2019 local off year elections to further build the ground game.

2020 Primaries to further build the ground game.

2020 Final to reap what we have sown.

Ugh. No kidding. Every time I see him I remember that footage of him shoving food into his mouth and get a bit sick.

Of course, his ass backwards ideology doesn’t help, either.

He could run as a conservative democrat mailman and, maybe, have (be) shot in some blue dog district. Fixed it for ya.

I’d pay good money to have O.J. Simpson shove a 2x4 up John Kasich’s butt.

The problem that I always have with these articles is that you have the Left writing articles about the dynamics of a political party that they hate. If the Left wants to write about Democrats, that’s fine, that’s who they are. But the Left writing about internal Republican dynamics is no different than Nazi ‘doctors’ writing about the dynamics of Jewish families. They simply should not be given any standing.

...but the Left owns the media, so that’s what we have to deal with.

Well, their current favorite Republican, John McCain, isn't long for this world so they have to start thinking about the future!
