You signed up three months ago and you're giving wise-ass advice to someone who's been here sixteen years?

Why? FReepers love to virtue signal that they've never heard of the biggest star on the planet. "Look at me! I'm not paying attention to anything this sinful modern world is doing! I only watch Gunsmoke reruns on the trusty b&w."

It was as annoying 16 years ago as it is today.

“You need to get out more and join the human race.”

If the human race is defined by it’s music stars we are in deep shiite.

I don't believe virtue signalling something that truly is a virtue is nearly as egregious as virtue signalling ones liberal/progressive and I might add fake bona fides.

So with that in mind, I haven't sullied the inside of a movie theater since “Smokey and the bandit” was in theater’s and I haven't watched a football game since Miami beat the Redskins in Superbowl (whatever), sometime in the early 1970’s.

Grown men and women being overpaid to act or play children's games isn't my idea of entertainment. I use the word “grown” and “men” ( see Bruce Jenner ) and “Women” ( see Fill in the blank ) loosely.

Monitoring the progress of Bill Clintons impeachment on Freerepublic, now, that's entertainment. Owe, and working my ass off and retiring at 56 years old is priceless.

As for a sinful/modern world, I must admit, I ignore it as much as possibly and get on with my life. I certainly don't view it and its vices as entertainment. Especially on my dime and my own time. ;)

I didn’t take any “virtue signaling” from Blue Jay’s post at all.

He paid the lady a compliment, despite not knowing her music. I know the name Taylor Swift, ‘cause it’s all over the place, including FR, but I don’t know her music either.

Not because I’m too good for it, or for her, I’ve just grown too old to tune in.

Sirius XM kicked off its classic southern rock station just in the past few days...that’s where my tuner stops.

Thanks to you I now (happily) know what Miss Swift looks like in glorious profile...man, she flies the colors well.

When I was in college, I attended church regularly. You know where I went to school. One semester, we had a whole bunch of Lipscomb grads show up for Masters programs. Three of the four seemed a bit effeminate to me, but I tried to be open minded. Well, a few years after I was married, these fellas came out of the closet. I wonder what they were teaching at Lipscomb in the 80s.

“She’s a lefty”

The left hate her for not hating Trump enough.

I’m a huge fan of Taylor Swift. Not so much of her music, but the way she runs her business. She stands up for herself and knows enough not to mix politics with her art.

I tried Googling to find out if Taylor is a Republican or Democrat but the only thing I could find is she once apparently wrote on her MySpace page

Republicans do it better

and she performed at the Republican National Convention in 2008 when she was a nobody

Listening to Taylor right now. I am trying to reconcile spending what it would take to actually see her in concert. Never gone. Her writing is so smart. Her treatment of people is so good.

And her response to who hurt her for real (not romance) is strong and fierce and confident like this President. I don’t know how she is going to sustain in concert the laugh at (I suppose) Kanye and “forgiving him” again in her song “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things.”

At first I didn’t like that she left country either. But she is being herself and she evolved. It’s fine.

She definitely goes out of her way to be apolitical. Which means she isn’t as stupid as a JLaw or a Kimmel. She’s smart and kind.

Where did it say I trust the Democrats

Freepers are fools to think gop always good and dems always bad

There were good and bad amongst all of them at times

But overall now they suck and have more often than not

Party worship is simplistic and lazy

Just my opinion

Do you have a problem with the south

Southern democrats were more socially conservative than most Yankee gop ever were

Which is my point

The vicitimhood special treatment legislation of the 1960s and 1970s would not have been possible without collusion between northern liberal GOP and liberal non southern dems

Conservative GOP or the Goldwater wing and Dixiecrats opposed it all

It’s hard to delineate into a nice neat package like say Glenn Beck and National Review do which states plainly Democrats always bad and GOP so wonderful

One promising feature of now is that more white northerners are voting like white southerners than in a long time

Of course last Alabama senate race is an anomaly to that which I figured would never happen

I live here

You can’t help but notice who celebs from here run with

Taylor was all over the Obamas

Apparently her manager tries to keep her from being a Jennifer Lawrence or maybe she herself knows better

But freepers think that means she’s a fellow travele

Not

Few country music brass and performers today are right wing....it’s not like it used to be even 20 years ago

It’s not “The South’s Gonna Do It Again.” But it is definitely worth a listen. She wrote this when she was 21. She has a gift for writing.

Loving him is like driving a new Maserati down a dead-end street
Faster than the wind, passionate as sin, ending so suddenly
Loving him is like trying to change your mind once you’re already flying through the free fall
Like the colors in autumn, so bright just before they lose it all

[Chorus:]
Losing him was blue like I’d never known
Missing him was dark grey all alone
Forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you never met
But loving him was red

If you are young, and not a liberal, you don’t have a heart.
