MSNBC's Velshi Wrongly Implies Guns Make U.S. Suicide Highest in World

On Thursday's Velshi and Ruhle show, MSNBC hosts Ali Velshi and Stephanie Ruhle continued their anti-gun crusade with Velshi at one point taking almost three minutes to rattle off a list of studies alleging that gun ownership makes people more likely to die earlier.

In one case, he made a claim that is easily debunked as he implied that the U.S. has the world's highest suicide rate, blaming it on guns, when, in fact, a number of other countries with more restrictive gun laws have higher suicide rates than the U.S.

The Ministry of Propaganda only cares about the narrative supporting the agenda.
The truth is irrelevant.

I'm not sure, and I'm too lazy at the moment to look it up, but the U.S. might have the highest firearm suicide rate among 'developed' nations, but AFAIK Japan leads in overall suicide rate.

Libs NEVER let the truth or facts stand in their way, and if necessary, they will make them up - that's how CNN continues to fill the 24 hr news cycle.

Velshi is being very dishonest when one considers the fact that it is countries like Japan, Hungary, and Germany that have among the highest suicide rates in the world.

I recently read an article on Japanese youth suicide that discussed things such as about 4600 young Japanese between ages 10 and 21 kill themselves on average per year and that the start of the school year and the national high school exam time are the worst times for this. It would take more that 250 mass school shootings (like Columbine or Stoneman) per year for the United States to equal the Japanese youth suicide number. Another not entirely uncommon thing to take place in Japan involves men coming home from work only to find that the wife has taken her life as well as those of the kids.

Man, talk about statistical claims without casual proof. Fact: There is a 99% correlation between cotton yields in the South and rainfall in Iceland. The Left would then say: Seed the clouds in Iceland and you’ll grow more cotton in the South.

Idiots...

Stats I posted at #8 are WHO stats and could have under reporting in some Nations due to cultural pressures on how records are kept.

We are 33rd on the list with most Asian countries, many EU countries and New Zealand ahead of us. We are in a virtual tie with the lefts favorite enlightened countries that have different gun laws. Sweden, Norway, and Canada.

Sunlight duration in the winter appears to have more influence than guns or money.

🙀. Probably a high number for some folks but I've known 7 suicides. Five firearms, 1 OD and one closed garage/running car method. Plus one death due to negligent firearm handling. In each case, the person, not the method or instrument was the cause. 😡. Selfish act in my mind but........

In the United States we have suicide by needle. Drug overdoses by opioids — a class of drugs that includes prescription painkillers as well as heroin and potent synthetic versions like fentanyl—killed 64,070 Americans in 2016, a 21 percent increase over the previous year. These deaths exceeded the 40,327 motor vehicle deaths in 2016. This number also exceeds the 58,200 American lives lost for the entire Vietnam War!! This goes on even when the illegal use of these drugs is a felony.

Where are the huge ‘do something’ demonstrations wanting an end to these suicide by needle deaths?

US ranking 33rd in suicide rate says gun has nothing to do with suicide.
Dumbass journalist says US has highest suicide rate in world and says it’s due to gun.
I wonder what to believe...

Egypt, with its low suicide rate, might be a happy place to live. Although, Egypt’s murder rate is not so well.

By now everyone knows that those on the left feel no obligation to limit themselves to truthful statements in argumentation, or under any other circumstance.

They are at war with reality and normalcy, and therefore feel entitled to use words as weapons. Their goal is to shut down discussions they can’t win, and that means pretty much every discussion.

The truth is of precisely zero interest to them, except to the extent they can use (or misuse) it to win their point.

We can no longer be trusted to own guns , anyone can at any moment snap and either commit suicide or become a mass shooter.

That means YOU!

I think Egypt might be one of the countries where cultural issues with suicide cause under reporting to whatever WHO looks at for their comparisons.

I wonder what to believe...

I know your above comment was rhetorical. I would like to comment that as of six to ten years ago, I no longer question what to believe.

I now know that if the national media reports it, except for a very short list of known reporters writing their own stuff, it is a lie. Not only is it always untruthful, it is malicious in nature.

I don't even rate Democrat politicians as low as the national media or a large university professor. Politicians are just everyday scumbags. The journalists, media heads, talking heads and university subversives are truly consumed with destruction.

These people are vile and should be identified as such at every opportunity to our countrymen.

I think you are correct about the cultural issues. I think the cultural issues effect murder rates too. That is why Japan has one of the lowest murder rates in the world.

This article goes into it even deeper. It asks why Asians (including Japanese) in America, with the access to guns, have the same low murder rates as Asians in their native countries? Read for the explanation:

Morning Joe - the same people who support the right of a woman to kill her baby right up to the minute before she would give birth...

This isn’t about ‘life and death’ it’s about communists in our country wanting to disarm the American people.
