Many ideas, some good & some not so good, emerged from our bipartisan meeting on school safety yesterday at the White House. Background Checks a big part of conversation. Gun free zones are proven targets of killers. After many years, a Bill should emerge. Respect 2nd Amendment!

Short buzz-phrases are designed to mislead. Hillary respects the 2nd amendment too.

Donald J. Trump on the Right to Keep and Bear Arms

And why does this matter to law-abiding gun owners? Once again, because they get blamed by anti-gun politicians, gun control groups and the media for the acts of deranged madmen. When one of these tragedies occurs, we can count on two things: one, that opponents of gun rights will immediately exploit it to push their political agenda; and two, that none of their so-called "solutions" would have prevented the tragedy in the first place. They've even admitted it.

Of course, we have a squad of Trump-bashers here who like to jump on anything he says and whine like children.

Nope, you have people who watched the "meeting" and couldn't believe their President was joining the enemy in making derogatory comments about Republican's support of Americans, who join the NRA, so their voices are heard against the gun grabbers.

Trump has done better than I ever would have imagined when I voted for him to keep Hitlery out of the White House, but I'm not blind to his mood swings of Conservative today....Liberal tomorrow.

Saw the same thing during the Garland shooting when he originally put the blame on Geller for being a trouble maker and "disrespecting" other religions. Took him a few days to be "educated" that our "Freedom of speech" MIGHT be an important thing that you don't knock......and saying "bad words" doesn't mean you deserve to be shot by Islamic Terrorists....and he changed course.

I will continue to appreciate all the good things Trump does, but I won't be "complacent" when he heads in a dangerous direction. The NRA did NOT pull the trigger in Florida. The NRA did NOT "make" the shooter in Florida. Anyone focusing on them instead of the man who pulled the trigger... and the people who gave him free reign... are nothing more than "lynch mobs". I don't like the leader of the free world sharing their view, even for a short period of time.....and it makes me very, very cautious about what side he's going to come down on.

I have noticed that too many folks on this forum treat him like a politician. That is their mistake.

You can be confident there are a lot here who never supported Trump in the first place. We're surrounded by political frauds and posers, just as Trump is in D.C. They're everywhere and they're butt hurt.

No doubt, many of these posers would have had no issues with Jed Bush or H. Clinton or even Rafael Cruz.

I have not been happy with some of the things Trump has been saying-if they are true. The MSM does distort things when it comes to Trump. However, Trump DID state that he would ban bump stocks with Executive Orders and apparently did state he wasn’t scared of the NRA. Those words ring hollow in me. Mr. President, the constitution bars the government from restricting arms ownership, period.

If they take our guns, we will have no choice than to start making them by hand underground so start learning how do do so.

Are you suggesting one of the biggest political sites on the Interwebs is not loaded with political posers?

Most likely he has rethought his own push to take guns without due process.

It was less a ‘push’ and more ‘brainstorming.’

That’s kind of what a business meeting is about, especially during the first phase, and Trump is running his administration like a business.

You don’t immediately dismiss ideas, even if they’re utterly awful ideas. You kick ‘em around for a bit and then throw them out during phase 2. Sometimes good ideas can come from the bad ideas, or the bad ideas can force people to think in different ways.

If nothing else, it brings the bad ideas into the light so they can be completely decimated.

Of course, anything from the Dems is a bad idea, but if listening to their breathless ranting can provide a catalyst for a Constitutional and effective law, then I’m willing to let the Donald do his thing. This is at least the fourth time that people have been all ragey about something he says and the last three times, nothing happened.

Yep and also any ideas on banning things. The background check system has a few holes in that need to be tweaked both legally and technologically. Then we should be able to weed out the dangerous freaks with greater ease and regularity.

That’s what I was thinking. But Trump often says one thing one day and then seems to come to his senses the next day.

***

Because that’s how a businessman works. During phase 1 of a project, no idea is taboo. Even the stupidest or the most destructive ideas.

In phase 2, after the brainstorming, that’s when the bad ideas get torn apart and dismissed.

As we can see, that’s what’s happened right now. The President kicks around all ideas in phase 1, good and bad, and then after that tosses out the dregs and keeps the good ones.

No, it was a push. He presented it as something he had come to the conclusion on earlier. It was going too far in his strategy and he has presented the plausibility that he sees that now and is not tied to the idea.

I don’t want any more specific a back-pedal anyway.

Yeah - it's almost like he wanted them to load it up with so much crap there would be no way it will get through the House.

I will, for the forseeable future, say, "If he said it..." or "If that really happened," unless I see it with my own lying eyes of hear Trump say it in real time.

I listened to most of the meeting yesterday live as it was happening. So I heard what he said. Not sure what you mean by "if he said it" since it was broadcast live. What Trump said is not in dispute. We will see what happens next and whether Trump follows through on what he said or changes his story.

I'm suggesting that assuming people who have concerns over yesterdays meeting are likely "political posers" is way too close to the "mind think" that those supporting Trump are "Russians or bots". Both philosophies make people's opinions "invalid" if it's not what you think.

From there.......I discussed my own "personal" views over what I saw yesterday.

“...watch Trump ask Feinstein to add... “

Trump is Trump. He triangulates better than anyone since Hillary’s husband - she couldn’t pull it off because she is a woman of principle, evil principle, but still principle. Neither Bill nor Donald have such a limitation.

This site is called FreeRepublic. Theoretically here to defend the objective principle of the individual Freedom and Republic style of extremely limited central government our Founders fought and died to enshrine into this once-great nation. Not for central committees of federal blowhards yakking on TV about how they can solve things that are rightfully none of their dang business.

It seems rather silly and immature that so many here suggest Mr. Robinson’s neighborhood should now suddenly abandon principle and become a marching band for some specific politician, regardless how many times he sides with the enemies of Freedom.

Yesterday’s disgusting display was analogous to the shooting which spawned it. While the forces of evil were attacking, Scott Trump was staging.

He could have ‘gone in’ several times. For example, at the beginning of your short clip, MN’s hard left Amy K was talking about the thousands of women who suffer domestic abuse. Scott Trump stages with:... yeah throw that in the everything bill too.

If he instead was a Coral Springs type of president, he would not have hesitated. He gone immediately in with: “Guns are the great equalizer for women. Many of whom in Amy’s stats probably did not live to 21.”

He is posturing to sound “fair.”

He will go as conservative as possible under the occasion.

By the way, you are reacting just as he needs to make his posturing look like he could really meant it, so, please, stay stressed.
