Knee-jerk reactions to school shootings exacerbate the school-to-prison pipeline in the name of school safety.
When President Donald Trump held a listening session with survivors of gun violence, their family members and the parents of murdered students on Wednesday, much of the discussion focused on ways to enhance school security. The president recommended arming teachers, while one parent suggested that undercover police officers pose as teachers and school staff. Several parents called for more security officers at schools.
Theres scant evidence that more cops and security guards on campus actually stop school shootings. Theres an abundance of evidence suggesting that more school security means more vulnerable students getting funneled at an early age into the criminal justice system.
Black children are already more likely to get arrested at school. In 2012, black children represented only 16 percent of school-aged children, but 31 percent of those arrested.
And when more cops are in school, these arrests are more likely to take place, even for minor misbehaviors. Its a phenomenon that advocates call the school-to-prison pipeline.
The more we add security or police forces and so on to schools, the more likely it is the students who are already at risk of being seen as potential trouble makers get swept up into the justice system or suspended and pushed out of schools, said Aaron Kupchik, a professor at the University of Delaware, who studies this issue. The risks are even higher for students who are already more vulnerable.

Good point.
More Cops In Schools Means More Black Kids In The Criminal Justice System
Well, duh.
Of course, to the Huffpo gang, they just can’t figure out why.
Because prejudice, they think.
But then again, were they able to really think, they wouldn’t be writing for the Huffpo now, would they?
And that isn’t a ‘win-win’ situation?
Black kids must be taught at home to be Human Beings.and not creatures of the Jungle.
Seventeen familes in Broward County wish a minority kid had been safely under the control of the criminal justice system.
No doubt that is where this was going. Libs will make a racial thing out of it to prevent making schools safer.
Well... they could just put the cops in the schools with minimal African-American population. Would that work? /s
Isn’t it rather racist to assume black children can’t behave?
Gee, crime must be racis!
The stupid is strong with this one.
These policies are instituted in many large school districts in the country.
The biggest loser are the black communities. These schools incubate criminal
behavior. They roam free to commit crimes and mostly on their own turf.
The criminal justice system in Chicago and Cook county do the same.
So, what does that mean?
1. Innocent black kids will be framed and falsely accused of crimes by corrupt cops?
2. More black kids who are committing crimes will be caught by honest cops and booked into the criminal justice system?
Now which is most likely?
Liberalism really is a mental disorder.

These ####### leftists are looking for love in all the wrong places.
Attention urban students:
DON’T COMMIT CRIMES IN SCHOOL.
IT”S THAT F****** SIMPLE
STOP USING YOUR F****** RACE AS A SPECIAL TREATMENT
Wtf? Let the kids die because a black kid might get arrested. They’ve got to be kidding, but they aren’t. According to these leftists, absolutely nothing works except what they want. Face it, they don’t give a damn about dead kids. Yeah the left is that evil and always has been.
And more accusations of sexual molestation whether it happened or students want to get the cop in trouble.
I always worked with kids. No way would I do so these days.
uh, Yeah... that’s the ‘trayvon rule’ that led to the dispersal of mental/criminal/assaulters in the public schools in Florida - that really worked well... /s
Gee Rebecca, that sounds a bit, you know, RACIST!
