Apple wowed the world with its iPhone X. Now it's Samsung's turn.
The South Korean electronics giant on Sunday will unveil its latest phone, the Galaxy S9, at its Unpacked event at the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona, Spain. Samsung's invitation for the launch featured the number nine -- for the name of the device -- as well as the teaser, "The Camera. Reimagined."
The Galaxy S series is Samsung's most important product line. If you own an Android phone, the odds are pretty high that it bears a Samsung logo. Last year, about one out of every five phones shipped across the world came from the company, according to IDC.

Been using an iPhone 6s for about a year now. Switched from Samsung Galaxy S4. Only reason for the switch was for compatibility with my work computer and other Mac devices. So far, no complaints. Battery lasts all day, never a crash or lock up. The S4 was nearing the end of it's life ... crashed so often throughout the day that I stopped counting. Good phone ... just got old and tired, I guess.
What will the Samsung Galaxy S9 price be?
Our sources have told us to expect a price hike of £50 in the UK, which will translate to £739 - this means we’d expect it to land around $775 / AU$1300 in other nations. That’s a 7% increase over last year, but a massive 25% bump from the Galaxy S7 - the Galaxy S9 won’t be cheap.
BTW, I've learned to LOVE Samsung Pay. Much more secure than using a credit card. Also it works on payment machines that Apple Pay won't work. So far I have been able to use Samsung Pay on EVERY machine I've tried. That is where the fingerprint function comes in handy since it activates only when I use the finger (in my case thumb) print scanner.
I have a very hi-quality phone from LG less than $275.00 new.
It has the latest OS Oreo 8.1 with the finger print on the back and think that is one of it’s best features.
It’s almost 2 years old and the battery holds for up to 2 and a half days. Camera puts out quality pic’s.
Can’t see spending $700.00 for any phone.
yep love my LG V-20
Samsung phones are pure junk. My daughter tossed hers out after lots of problems, and bought an iPhone and loves it. My older sister has had lots of problems with her Samsung phone losing power at the worst times, and I’ve been telling her to replace it with an iPhone. Her son replaced the battery in her Samsung yet it continues to have problems holding a charge. I would never buy one.
Nope. Mine's a Motorola.
Was that a typo os did you say you’ve owned the S8 for just over 2 years? Wasn’t it just released April 2017? How was this possible?
Does the S9 allow the user to change the battery and does it still have micro SD card or did they discontinue that again? I’m still happy with my S5.
You’re probably right. Seems like a couple of years, but then...at my agee, time becomes muddled.
agee = age
My old Galsxay S (no number) still turns on, but most apps won't run due to obsolete OS.
My old Galaxy S III still works as a mini-tablet. I use it to run Pandora "radio" to a Bluetooth speaker.
My current phone is a Galaxy S6. It works fine, always has.
Wife's current phone is a Galaxy S8. It works fine, always has.
Sigh, a problem with all phones no matter the maker. At least with computers, one can keep an old OS alongside a newer one and switch between them to use all apps (if the CPU can handle it). Phones don't have the space to do this. Nor the CPU to handle a new OS. At least apps are cheap (or free) now. But an OS changes far too frequently now. As for Pandora radio, love it.
I personally think the Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ is aimed specifically at Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S7 users. Last year’s Galaxy S8 was aimed for people trying to decide to getting an iPhone or not.
