  • Trump signs order to protect U.S. networks from foreign espionage, appears to target China

Washington Post ^ | May 15, 2019 | Ellen Nakashima and Josh Dawsey
Amid a deepening trade war with China, President Trump on Wednesday declared a “national emergency” to protect U.S. communications networks in a move that gives the federal government broad powers to bar American companies from doing business with certain foreign suppliers — including the Chinese firm Huawei. Trump declared the emergency in the form of an executive order that says foreign adversaries are exploiting vulnerabilities in U.S. telecommunications technology and services. It points to economic and industrial espionage as areas of particular concern. “The President has made it clear that this Administration will do what it takes to keep America...

US President Trump signed an executive order Wednesday declaring a national emergency, barring the use of telecommunications equipment made by companies deemed a threat to national security… The Executive Order did not name China or Chinese companies specifically. However, separately, and soon after the order was signed, the US Commerce Department did just that. The Commerce Department added Huawei and 70 affiliates to its “Entity List” after it concluded that the Chinese company was engaged in activities “contrary to US national security or foreign policy interests”.

I just updated to Oreo OS on my gorgeous Samsung Galaxy S8 and them sum beeches at Google changed all my icons to some book chit with frames and there is zero possibility to change back to original theme and icons. They also effed my texts and a few other things. I can't stand this cartoonish theme buttons! They are for 4-7 year olds and took my very professional looking phone down to etch-a-sketch looking crap. Rant off... I will upgrade to iPhone on my birthday and Samsung/Google can go to hell... Wasted quite a bit of money upgrading to...

NEW YORK/SEOUL – Samsung Electronics Co Ltd said it has received “a few” reports of damage to the displays of samples of its upcoming foldable smartphone, raising the prospect of a less-then-smooth entry for the splashy $1,980 handset. The Galaxy Fold, on sale from April 26 in the United States, resembles a conventional smartphone but opens like a book to reveal a second display the size of a small tablet at 7.3 inches (18.5 cm). The design, matched by Huawei Technologies Co Ltd’s Mate X, was hailed as the future in a field that has seen few surprises since Apple...

Do you know your place? In these days of hysterical Wokesterism, the question would surely provoke a riot of cowbell-clanging Antifa cadres, fainting spells in the congressional black caucus, and gravely equivocal op-eds from David Brooks of The New York Times. Yet it’s a central, unacknowledged quandary of our time that so many Americans have no place and suffer terribly from it. Human beings need a place in the social order, in the economic order, and in actual geography in order to function optimally in a life fraught with the normal challenges and difficulties that reality presents. Let’s take these places in...

For years the push to replace physical drivers licenses with digital drivers licenses has relied one one thing; privacy. But all of the "fake news" the public has been fed about their privacy is about to come "crashing" down, literally. A Nevada bill if passed would allow police to search everyone's smartphones. Nevada bill AB200 allows police to search the phones of everyone involved in a car crash. "An act relating to motor vehicles; authorizing a peace officer at the scene of a traffic crash to use technology to determine if a driver was using a handheld wireless communications device at...

Could Samsung be on the cusp of a fully wireless TV? A recent patent hints that a Samsung TV without any pesky cables could be around the corner. Spotted by LetsGoDigital, the patent was filed in March 2018 but only released publicly in late February of this year. The patent revolves around a wireless power transceiver, which would make the prospective television the first of its kind to transmit power across the room rather than relying on a power cable - increasingly seen as an eyesore next to Samsung's premium design sets. The transceiver takes the form of a magnetic...

Samsung unveiled a highly anticipated smartphone with a foldable screen in an attempt to break the innovative funk that has beset the smartphones market. But it's far from clear that consumers will embrace a device that retails for almost $2,000, or that it will spark the creative renaissance the smartphone market apparently needs. The Galaxy Fold, announced Wednesday in San Francisco, will sell for $1,980 when it is released April 26.Consumers willing to pay that hefty price will get a device that can unfold like a wallet so it can work like a traditional smartphone with a 4.6 inch screen or...

With the Galaxy S10, Samsung celebrates its 10th anniversary Galaxy S phone by going big and bold. How bold? Each of the four new Galaxy S10 models is more impressive than the last: there's the cheaper S10E ($750), the Galaxy S10 ($900), S10 Plus ($1,000) and Galaxy S10 5G, the brand's first 5G phone (price TBA, as are UK and Australian prices for the whole range). This is Samsung seeking to whip up excitement, roar back in sales and defend its title as the world's top smartphone brand. But the Galaxy S10 phones also represent a quest for perfection.

Samsung [announced] that it was no longer making 4K players and has confirmed that it will also halt production on new 1080p models. "Samsung will no longer introduce new Blu-ray or 4K Blu-ray player models in the US market," a Samsung spokesperson told CNET.  Samsung launched its last 4K players in 2017 and didn't add any new models to its lineup in 2018. A high-end 4K player for 2019 along the lines of its UBD-M9500 was in the works, a Forbes report says, but has now been scrapped...

Tablets are ideal for kids, travelers, and professionals - it just depends on which one you buy. The best tablet for most people is Apple's 2018 9.7-inch iPad, but we've also included a number of other excellent tablets that are best for different uses. When I was a kid, and our family went on a long car ride, my parents would keep us entertained by making us play games like I Spy, Don't Hit Your Brother, and Who Can Stay Quietest the Longest. These days, though, kids are just as likely to have a tablet screen in the backseat, watching...

Samsung has got a lot right with the Galaxy S10 and the company is so confident, it has already started to brag about the biggest upgrades. But has Samsung made one very critical mistake? Picked up by the ever-reliable SamMobile, Samsung seems so pleased with the Galaxy S10 that it has priced the range sky high reaching almost $2,000.

The long-term vision is that 5G will lead to the invention of thousands of new products, technologies and services, increase productivity and allow for new industries to emerge. A global 5G network would unify mobile communication and connect individuals or devices to everything through the Internet of Things (IoT). 5G technology can connect vehicles, ships, buildings, meters, machines and other items with electronics, software, sensors and the Cloud, while embedded 5G technology would allow machines to exchange information and integrate computer-based systems in the physical world. In recent years 3G and 4G patent owners have controlled the way in which...

Tech-industry juggernauts Apple, Samsung and Huawei each have their own unique and strategic (yet often hilarious) way of taunting one another’s flagship devices. But amid recent events like the uncertain state of U.S. China Trade relations and arrest of the firm’s Chief Financial Officer, Meng Wanzhou, the riff between China’s Huawei Technologies Co. and U.S.-based Apple, Inc. has escalated far beyond their typical friendly-fire. Some 20+ Chinese firms have already urged their employees to boycott Apple products and, in retaliation, encourage them to buy from Huawei instead. Most firms partaking of these anti-Apple boycotts are reportedly offering their employees up...

New York (CNN Business)Stocks fell sharply Monday, dragged down by reports that Apple's newest line of phones may not be selling as well as Apple or its investors had hoped. The Dow fell more than 500 points and the Nasdaq tumbled 2.8%. Apple's stock fell once more after the Wall Street Journal reported that Apple has cut orders for its iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. The new iPhones, which Apple unveiled in September, cost more than previous versions. The $749 iPhone XR is the least expensive new iPhone, but it costs $50 more than last year's cheapest...

Apple and Samsung were fined Wednesday for software updates that Italy's antitrust watchdog said slowed down users' phones. The Italian Competition Authority, or AGCM, fined Apple and Samsung 5 million euros (about $5.7 million) each for releasing software updates that "significantly reduced" the performance of phones, the AGCM said in a statement. Both companies urged people to install updates that weren't "adequately supported by their devices," the AGCM said, adding that Apple and Samsung failed to provide customers with an "effective way to recover the full functionality of their devices." This pushed consumers to buy new devices, according to the...
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 9: 1TB of smartphone storage now a reality (at a price - $1600)

About $1,600. That's how much it will cost you to have a Note 9 with 1TB of storage. Samsung's new Galaxy Note 9 comes in two configurations -- a 128GB model with 6GB of RAM for $999.99, and a 512GB model with 8GB of RAM for... wait for it... $1,249.99. Now that 512GB model already offers twice as much storage capacity as the higher-end iPhone X (and much more RAM, for only $100 extra). But where's the fun in only having half a terabyte of storage? That only allows you to store about 2,300 movies, or some 93,000 photos. We...
