Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway on Monday urged the National Rifle Association to move its upcoming annual convention elsewhere in light of last week’s mass school shooting in Parkland, Florida.
Mr. Caraway, who represents District 4 on the Dallas City Council, told reporters Monday that the NRA would be “met with opposition” if it continues with its annual meeting of members event, scheduled for May 3-6 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.
“There will be marches and demonstrations should they come to Dallas,” Mr. Caraway said, local ABC affiliate WFAA reported.

It takes years to pick a location and set one of these conventions into motion.
The idea that they could change on short notice is plain nuts.
This clown shouldn't be in charge of the police impound lot, let alone near the mayor's office.
The mayor does not speak for most of the people of Texas. The people will support the NRA in Texas.
I still wonder if he has discussed this with the local businesses that stand to gain from the millions spent on the convention? Will the city reimburse for cancellation fees and lost business revenue?

The city of Dallas proper is actually a small part of the DFW Metroplex. And, as with most large metropolitan areas the core is usually rotten. Same with Dallas. I live on the north periphery of the metroplex and I don’t envision a particularly large turnout to protest. There will be the usual imports and paid protesters, useful idiots, etc. That’s about it.

The youth of today have changed due to all the violence in media and the family values crashing.

In 2011, Caraway drew sharp criticism for his attempt to honor convicted felon Michael Vick by presenting him with a ceremonial key to the City of Dallas.
On January 25, 2018, it was reported by local news in Dallas, Texas that Caraway was linked to Slater Swartwood, a businessman facing prison time for bribing public officials. NBCDFW questioned Caraway about his receipt of payments from Smartwood who testified that he directed payments to Caraway in exchange for Caraway’s support of Smartwood’s company, Elf Investments, getting contracts from the city. The alleged payments occurred when Caraway was a member of the Dallas city council. [18]
