You don’t get licensed as a plumber, HVAC tech, welder, or electrician just by doing it either. You’ve got to spend some time in the classroom.

You’re missing the point. There is honor in those professions. People can make a good living doing those jobs. I won’t put a gun to anyone’s head but it may help if people they look up to (like professional athletes) help steer them in a more positive direction. And that doesn’t take any of your tax money. Instead of these youths being focused on being professional football or basketball players, let’s get them focused on something more realistic — like being plumbers, welders, electricians, etc.
Wrong, there is nothing wrong with government helping to set up trade schools and/or helping students to attend. That is exactly what this country need as we are terribly short handed in the construction trades.

They don't want to learn because it is "acting white." Maybe if welfare (from mostly white people) ceased, they might be motivated.

You know why Alabama? Because it is a strong right to work state, where a workman doesn’t have to belong to a union to work.
Go to the states that require union membership, and you aren’t going to see any black plumbers or electricians. Because the unions won’t let them in.
What about Chinese plumbers? Do we need to make sure they are presented also?
As in my original post, “I’ll add that I don’t believe it should be limited to just blacks but, if these three guys were participants, I believe it would would make more of a positive difference.”

I believe it would be a good idea to add a few good moral/spiritual leaders to such a group too. They certainly don’t have to be black. It’s important to remember that so many black youths don’t have a good role model in their homes. Too many are without a father in the home.
I see nothing wrong with encouraging others. If others have good ideas, I am all for hearing it.
Can he throw in some HVAC repair guys?
