I disagree.
Sending children to school in prisons is a characteristic of a totalitarian society.
Eliminating compulsory education laws would be a far more effective approach. You cannot have kids coming home from school talking about the deranged loser who everyone knows is just a powder keg waiting to explode -- with nobody able to do anything about it except wait for the explosion and hope he doesn't take too many victims with him.

You want to protect our children at school?
Be prepared to defend them against evil.
Put aside your foolish anti-gun crap and qualify all teachers to be prepared to return fire.
Our schools are nothing but stock yards full of bleating sheep in shooting gallery gun free zones.
Train teachers to be securely armed so they can protect our children. And if they refuse.....fire them.

There should be at least 1 armed police officer or armed deputized civilian for every 250 students at large schools.
If a school is as big as the one in Florida (3000 students) the police department should have an on-campus satellite office.
This high school had more people there than the population of most towns in Middle America. Apparently they had one armed guard who wasn’t near the shooting at the time.
They should have had at least 5 or 6.

"If the shooter gets in, the kids should take whatever theyve got and attack. They cant just sit there frozen or they will die...says Goldstein,...'then the child needs to run as fast as they can AWAY from the shooter.'...Crazy people are obviously not being dealt with properly students at Parkland even predicted this would happen."
Yes. And criminals dealt with properly. The boy was a criminal and had been alleged to have committed several crimes.
First, our family laws and policies are wrong and need to be repealed. The young man was spoiled rotten. Someone had been defending his abuses against others.
The classrooms need doors between them all--not only doors into classrooms from hallways. Distance is needed between railed/cabled parking lots and school buildings with no vehicle access near doors. Egress windows--large enough for students to get outside--should be installed, as is required by the International Building Code for houses (fire code). The students need unhindered mobility.
The students need training to disarm attackers. Desks can be used as weapons.
And no, we don't need whacked out commie public school teachers on dope carrying weapons. They're an incompetent menace. Hire and train former military servicemen from combat-intensive or security-intensive specialties (and background checks, examples being Army or Marine infantry, Navy SEALs, combat engineers--not construction but combat type, military police,...) as armed security guards instead.

Yes, the time is NOW. It is important to empower kids to self protect. And guess what, it will work at home, too.

Trump is smart. Have the ED DEPT require the changes.
In this incident, the problem was that the students were following a mandated protocol (fire alarm) which exposed them to the shooter, and facilitated his escape.
