PARKLAND, Fla. - The suspected gunman in the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland seemed troubled and depressed in recent years and his adoptive mom died just 3 1/2 months ago, neighbors, friends and family members said... [snip]The boys were left in the care of a family friend after their adoptive mom died Nov. 1, she said... [snip]"Lynda the mom was always apologetic. She had her hands full," Shelby said. "They were very much on their own. The kids seem to roam around and come and go as they pleased," Richie Speno said. Police were called out numerous times, and Shelby said Cruz was seen shooting at a neighbor's chickens. "I told my husband I was so glad they moved.

The “war on boys” isn’t helping matters; how many of these shooters had any future? I want to know why the school instructed teachers not to permit him on campus “with a backpack”; I suspect he said very specific things that could have let police detain him instead of leaving him loose to kill people; if anyone concealed those things (especially a school employee) they need to do serious jail time.

And in the sense that faith has faded.

Very true. There was a time when belief in a higher power would have kept someone from doing such a thing.

Lots of bad circumstances contributed to this event.

1. Genetics- Adoption at birth - We should suspect there’s a strong chance that his birth mother / father were drug addicts and possibly incarcerated themselves. Very often the crazy gene or drug warped brain is being sown in the womb.

2. Adoption by older parents- Much more difficult for them to have the stamina and where with all to raise children in these times. They adopted these boys while in their fifties and neither parent had longevity.

3. No extended familial structure to provide support or a safety net. The parents were transplants from NY. No grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins to support them.

4. Dad died of a heart attack years ago - no father figure in the household. We presume there’s no uncles or athletic coaches in this boy’s life.

5. Unknown psychotrophic drugs in his system due to diagnosis which are genuine due to his antisocial horrible behavior.

6. Mom dies three months ago and that was likely is only thread of normalcy however wavering it was to support him.

NOTE: It was reported that Mom wanted to send the boys up North to live with a neighbor’s daughter sometime after the boys’ father had died. SHE COULD NOT DEAL WITH THEM.

And she was willing or desperate to send them away. There always has been lots of trouble with Nicolas. He is a deeply disturbed young man that has been quite abnormal for a very long time.

From the article

“...Lynda, who died of pneumonia, adopted Nikolas the day he was born.

She also adopted his biological brother, the relative said. ...”

The brother Zachary might be older, if she adopted Nikolas at birth, and him also.

This high school had 3000 students.

For what's worth, one of the students on Tucker Carlson last night was answering one of his questions and said that there 4,000 students there. Maybe she didn't know or was just throwing out a number that she had heard? Maybe that number includes students that are classified as part time?

studies show that if a shooter doesn’t hurry up and kill himself, the emotional deregulation is dissipated and they feel better and do no long have the urge to suicide. kind of a oh dear moment.

I have worked with numerous children like this, and can say with certainty that the system doesn’t work. Even when parents do everything possible to try to get help, they are never believed. They won’t even diagnose children as psychotic because we have no way to deal with them as a society. I know of parents who have been forced to take children home from mental health programs because the children were too dangerous to stay in a program—even though the kid was violent and threatening to kill their family.

These poor parents are emotional wrecks, and they are abused by the system that is supposed to help them. The vast majority of parents killed by their children are victims of adopted children who are known psychopaths. The kids are all on SSRIs, but are taught that there are no consequences to their actions. They have no ability to attach emotionally, and will kill a person with less emotion than you would swat a fly. Despite years of therapy and innumerable programs, they are insane and dangerous.

The parents are beaten down from every quarter and many are older and do not have the physical stamina to control the children. The divorce rate is huge, and the lack of support alienates them from peers. People are uncomfortable with real crazy and they can to get any relief. The children are time bombs, and yet when they explode, it’s a huge surprise. It’s the gun’s fault; it’s the parents; it’s Trump’s fault. Anything but the fact that we don’t want to deal with institutionalizing dangerous people because we are a caring society and never want to return to the evil movie days of “One Flew Over the Cookoo’s Nest.”

It was a great movie, but it has done more harm to our society than can be imagined. There are some people who are incapable of living in a civil society and they need to be maintained in facilities that are equipped to deal with them. Most are incurable and truly require lifelong care—real care—not some socially acceptable stepping stone to murder.

This high school had 3000 students. My high school had 450 students and that seem like a lot of students. I can't image how you adequately control 3000 teenagers.

My high school had 5000 students (home room after 2nd period since that was the first time all students were there at one time) and we had no violence, no armed guards, a matron to patrol the girls' rooms (smoking was a no-no). It isn't the number of students that cause something like this.

I’ve seen a few crazy kids in the younger years and it is seriously alarming. Meds can work, but in the long term, they can be a band-aid solution that results in the time-bomb we just witnessed.

There are great parents and teachers that try and cope with these children and there are no easy answers but -isolation to a mental health center or reform school.

These kids can destroy the normal lives of their siblings, parents and school classmates when they are mainstreamed.

While there has always been a tiny percent of the population that suffers from mental illness, the proportion has increased steadily with the advent of parents indulging in recreational drugs during pregnancy.

Parents that are taking all sorts of drugs whether legal or illegal are likely altering there genetic code passed along to their offspring. And if the mother is a drug addict while pregnant, particularly in the early months, the resulting infant’s brain may develop miswired.

I’ve known three parents that adopted newborns from druggie mothers and initially they appeared to be really cute looking little kids. However, all have been a horrible handful requiring 10X the amount of attention and interventions than the rest of their brood. It’s unclear whether the brain can eventually rewire itself towards normalcy as these kids matured to adults.

At baseball games sometimes a fan will do something for publicity like run out on the field--the media have a policy of not showing it. Sounds like the same thing was done with streaking.

At least streaking inspired one of Ray Stevens' more memorable songs.

I adopted a child from a druggie mother, right out of the box and still wet.

She is 6 now and a handful, and I wonder how much of that is genetic. She requires a strong hand.

I still know the birth mom, who recently stopped using meth, and who has 2 previous children by two different fathers who did time in 2 different prisons.

Needless to say that those 2 kids are on a career path to loser town. In fact, their fate has been sealed by now. It is too late to help them.

“Despite years of therapy and innumerable programs, they are insane and dangerous.”

So, is removal from society the most effective way to prevent these types of events? Should we reopen the 800,000 psych ward beds that were closed in the late 1970’s?

May God bless you and keep you strong and determined to break the mold. What you instill in her right now is very very important.

Of course you understand that not all children born to druggies will be effected by their mom’s habit. I think that you can nurture and remold a young mind and set them upon the right path. And that’s all we can do is our best to succeed in parenting.

Some kids are just naturally very strong willed and require diversions and strict parenting to develop. If she learns a righteous moral code it will over ride what ever impulses challenges she will face as she matures. Watch her like a hawk and don’t succumb to complacency when she becomes a teenager in the distant future. Know her friends and their parents and support each other.

Sometimes a very controlled environment like a private school or home school is a much safer environment and less risky than allowing (potentially at risk) children to circulate in public schools, particularly after elementary school.

The negative choices regarding drugs and sex in private school will be minimal in comparison to the exposure with the masses. The beginning of Middle school is a wise time to exit government schools. Her worst choice might be whether to roll up her skirt one inch to high as opposed to experimenting with crack or meth. And when she gets a phone one day, monitor it - (again) like a hawk.

Yes. Psyc wards are necessary, but ACLU lawyers are now a huge problem.

They made tons of money advocating for insane people and forcing their release.

Some folks should be confined.

Most importantly, they eliminate their threat to the rest of society. It’s not morally right pr rationale that so many must suffer and die and leave families destroyed in order to give freedom to the insane in our midst.
