Scoop: Trump endorses 25-cent gas tax hike
Axios ^ | February 14th, 2018 | Jonathan Swan

Posted on 02/14/2018 2:46:43 PM PST by Mariner

President Trump endorsed a 25-cent gas tax hike to pay for infrastructure at a White House meeting this morning with senior administration officials and members of Congress from both parties, according to two sources with direct knowledge. Trump also said he was open to other ways to pay for infrastructure, according to a source with direct knowledge.

Reality check: Trump’s gas tax idea appears dead on arrival. Republicans aren’t about to hike taxes for the Trump voters driving their pickup trucks to work every day. It’s a regressive tax and in Republicans’ minds would undo some of working and middle class tax cuts they just passed.

“So....Trump”

Anytime someone starts a statement with the words, “So Trump”, I wonder where the writer’s sentiments were during the election process. If they were a Trump supporter, maybe they are frustrated. If not, then I wonder if they ever supported Trump. Just wondering.

To: I want the USA back

“If you want my vote, you’ll forget you ever thought that this was a good idea.”

That’s because you’re having an emotional, rather than reasoned reaction.

Leave that crap to the commies...

I agree about taxing sales, but this is not a shift. It’s just more theft. I support reducing government spending over any new or existing taxation.

I do not believe for one minute anyone has thought of what a trucker paying another 100 bucks per fill will do with that cost. That figures to about 5 to 6 hundred bucks for a 6 day trip.

Be ready to pay a hell of a lot more for goods at the store.

“I love regressive taxation.”

My Modest Proposal is to eliminate all taxes, and to fund the government by printing money. They’re half-way there already. I suppose, to be responsible, the amount printed should be tied to GDP growth.

And the greenies with their hip EVs get a free ride.

Time for scrapping liquid fuels taxes and going mileage-based.

What has been done with the current gas per gal..tax?

Can any State show how it has been spent?

Gas in PA. is back up to $3.00 gal.

we gas up in Maryland and it is 50 cents a gal less. and many in this area we live do the same...

When Democrats are in power, Republicans are the conservative party. When Republicans are in power, there are no conservatives.

But There is no shift. It is just an increase and with WDC as it is the money will not be spent on infrastructure.

We have already had way more than a 25 cent hike in the actual cost of gas since Trump has been in office. Far more than that in heating fuel. May as well slap another tax on it as well.../sarc

Put EVERY NICKEL into the roads, bridges, streets, and rail mass transit (without STEALING MORE from the already existing taxes on driving) and I’m in favor of it. Trump is right, this country is falling apart. Literally.

That means, no new “green” empty buses driving around, no comparative driving culture studies, no “vehicle safety for morbidly obese lesbians” classes funded by it.

Consumption taxes are fine, however coupled by an income tax, heck no!

Cut spending, agencies, and use aggressive accounting procedures to weed out abuse to pay for the infrastructure.

That’s $1000 bucks a year in additional cost for each pickup or SUV driver. DOA.
