The sister of CNN host Don Lemon has died after she fell into a Louisiana pond and drowned while fishing.

The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office say her death is being treated as an accident and they do not suspect foul play.

"Our family has suffered the tragic loss of L'Tanya 'Leisa' Lemon Grimes and we are leaning on each other for strength at this time. We appreciate privacy as we grieve the loss of our loved one."

I have read that many (or most) black people are not ‘floaters’ but ‘sinkers’.

I am white and in the "sinker" category. I can sit on the bottom of the pool with lungs inflated (fully inflated I'm about neutral).

This doesn't preclude you from learning to swim. I was a lifeguard back in the day... LOL My then girlfriend and current wife used to hang out in her bikini under my watch-stand. Those were the days for sure!

Bogus, but widely believed, argument.

White men with more muscle density than black women, for example.

Everyone floats more easily in salt water. Everyone without severe disability can learn to swim —in freshwater or salt.

I think it’s largely untrue. Look at very low body fat very muscular swimmers or other muscular dense people in general, sure they may be lighter skinned, but you are talking similar heavy muscular build.

I have black skinned nieces and nephews (teens now) who swim just fine and have been for a decade - they go to the ocean and are in pools every summer. I think it’s just what parents teach their children and or what a child chooses as they grow up, to believe and to do.

Any skill or achievement in life takes practice and repeated effort. Maybe there is a very small percentage who have trouble floating, come to think of it my Mom who is white 5’ tall and small boned tends to not float easily, but she can swim herself out of deep water - it’s a skill learned, no big mystery for anyone who wants to learn to tread water or simple strokes to stay above water for quite a while.

Staying calm is likely the bigger key issue.

it’s likely the woman in the article panicked and aided in her own drowning. very sad.

The pond is racist for drowning a black woman.

Of course you’re going to be hated and reviled. You can’t control that. All you can control is yourself.

But if you say that you will not love unless you are loved back, you have given up your control. Your actions are dictated by the actions of others.

“I think all of the Commandments were great...for their time. “

The idea that God failed to consider today in formulating His commandments is ridiculous. And what is next? That the 2nd ammendment was fine...for its day? To “love” in this context is a commitment to remember that YOU are no more precious in God’s eyes than anyone else.

I laughed. Good one.

Don Lemon shall suffer the Trump curse. He will die cold and alone, and I will celebrate his death.

Actually, any suffering Don Lemon receives is well-deserved.

Farm ponds can be death traps. They are often deeper than people suspect and the footing is often horrible. My sympathies to the family.

I have no use whatsoever for the mealy-mouthed Mr. Lemon.
But this is truly an awful tragedy. Prayers for him and for his family.

In high school we had to tread water for 15 minutes, and it was very, very tiring.

It was 39 years ago and I can still remember the fatigue.

The coach stood at the edge to stomp our fingers if we tried to rest.

I believe this is falacy. I taught swimming for over 20 years, to both races, and never saw evidence of that. Some black children seem more afraid and are more difficult to teach, but they did eventually learn.

IMO, black parents never learned to swim and don’t encourage their children, plus, the lack of places to swim where they live, contribute.
