Vice President Mike Pence said signaled that he believes a controversial memo detailing alleged government surveillance abuses should be released to the public, but said it’s a decision that ultimately falls to President Trump.

Bzzzt. It falls to the House. Pence gets my antennae up from time to time despite having been by all outward indications an exemplary VP. This is one of those times.

“it’s a decision that ultimately falls to President Trump”........

Since the “House” approved it for release, is it not THEN the President’s call, assuming there is classified information within the report? The POTUS has the option to de-classify the information before releasing it. I believe I read that some time ago but need clarification.

Yes and No.

If the committee that creates the document votes to make it public, or unclassify it then the President has the opportunity to deny that and keep it classified. If the President decides to keep it classified then the whole house has the opportunity basically to override the Presidents veto with a simple majority vote to release it.
