This must be one of those accounts that strips away all the principle, and leave the interest hanging out there in its birthday suit.
Having been born during the Great Depression, I guess I was raised to never depend on the gov. for anything. My advice for all is to spend your working years planning for your old age. Buy and pay for a house. Learn how to invest and put some in an interest bearing savings acct. Invest in Gold & Silver and take physical control of it. Think ahead to what your children might need to bury you. Pay for it now. Save save save (quietly).

You are correct, but the amount of money-printing that may be required to pay those benefits in the future, could destroy the country, in the future.
The steadfast insistence of the nation to even consider the mildest reforms to the benefit structure, a penny a month lower benefit next year, is a sign of the stupidity and insanity of Socialism. Thanks.
My grandparents lived through the Great Depression and held the opposite view because of it. They didn’t trust banks or business but did trust the government and were life long democrats. My grandpa would always say that without FDR this country probably would have gone communist. Their the reason I was a democrat early in my life, and why I have a distrust of banks and big business, the distrust of government I learned on my own.
Funny how that works.
Two of my closest Childhood Friends both died at age 61.
They didn’t get a dime after paying hundreds of thousands of dollars into the SS so called Trust Fund during their working lives.
The Family of one of them did get that big $255 to pay for the Flowers at his Memorial though.
