I agree, because the recipients are not paying a dime on it. Those on medicare did when they were still working, as the fee was deducted from their pay check. Now we who are on Social security have to pay for the higher Medicare premium by either not getting a raise, like myself, or getting a miserly 2% raise in their Social security check. My husband is getting $5.00 more. Yippy
Yeah and who made it into a Ponzi scheme? It sure wasn’t the republicans
The problem is precisely that...if this money had been invested over all those years, and not used as a cash cow for other agencies, thered be a surplus.
STOP USING THE MONEY FOR SSI. This year, seniors got a 2% increase. My 96 year old mother got ONE DOLLAR; last year she got NOTHING. My wife lost money this year. In the 8 years of the half breed, SS went up a TOTAL of 8.9%, most of which went to Medicare.
War on Seniors.
Death Knell? But we were Promised!

“The program is designed so that contributions plus interest on the investments of the social security trust funds will be sufficient to meet all of the costs of benefits and administration, now and into the indefinite future—without any subsidy from the general funds of the Government.
Both the Congress and the Executive Branch, regardless of political party in power, have scrupulously provided in advance for full financing of all liberalizations in the program.”
And HERE’S where your money went.

Yes. It was LBJ who moved the SS money into the General Fund. If they would just give me back all the money that I paid in over 50 years, I wouldnt ask for any more. But they wont do that.
You are 100%correct.
Three years of SS payments isnt remotely close to what I have paid in. Where do you get your statistics, Demo Underground??
Iraq wasn’t an “unforseen” event. It was an unnecessary war that wasted $3 trillion of our tax money - a lot of it borrowed from Social Security
No offense, but what planet are you living on?
Just because Ibama wasted trillions doesn’t let Bush off the hook for also wasting trillions. Bushs invasion of Iraq burned through $3 trillion. As Trump says, it was a stupid war that devastated Iraq, destabilized the Middle East, and led to mass killings of Christians once Saddam was no longer there to keep the jihadis in line. Trump is so right: Bush was a disastrous president
I read somewhere (and it was some time ago!) that the cross over point was 7 years. It wouldn’t surprise that its 3 now.
Can you imagine every person on this board screeching about having paid for Social Security?
While it might mean never getting “mine” it might be amusing to watch them writhe on the floor.
I’ve seen similar statistics but it was caveated with “average recipient” I don’t remember what they might by average and maybe you’re not average.
Look at Ida Mae Fuller (the first recipient - it made all the news reels!) During her lifetime she collected a total of $22,888.92 in Social Security benefits and paid in $24.75.
There have been 10s if not 100s of thousands of Ida Mae Fullers!
Yeah, because the republicans haven’t been in charge at any time in the last 75 years.
Face it, the US government has continually shoved it right up your backside.
NONE of them gives two loose squirts about you, me, or anyone else.
But you keep on spouting about how the Dems are screwing you. You’ve fallen into their swamp and you can’t get up.
It is considered a contract.
Wrong. See Fleming v Nestor.

They could stop paying people who never paid into the program. Maybe that would help.
But I was promised by Democrats that Social Security funds were in a “lock box” and would be available when needed.

They even updated the lock box act in 2016
In other words,
the U.S. Constitution has the takings clause
covers Social Security default.
That’s why I said the average recipient...
