What an incredible waste of time, money, and credibility.

And give California two more votes in the Senate?
No thanks

New states may be admitted by Congress into this Union; but no new state may be formed or erected within the jurisdiction of any other state; nor any state be formed by the junction of two or more states, or parts of states, without the consent of the legislatures of the states concerned as well as of the Congress.

— Article 4, Section 3, Clause 1, US Constitution
That is the Constitutional method. And the New Californians have declared that they intend to pursue that method.

“New California”? They should have gone for “Jefferson”.

I think the solution for California is to return it to Territory status and let Trump appoint a governor. Disband their state congress.

The yellow counties are the primary source of Kalifornia’s insanity.

The blue counties are the primary source of Kalifornia's water ;)

What do Californian FReepers think about this?

The Marxist Prog Humanist scum in the yellow counties have destroyed the entire state with their tyranny.

Total separation of the two would allow the blue (in THIS map) counties to rebuild all the good that was California 70 years ago.

Meaning the California State Assembly would have to vote to approve this. I'm sure that's going to happen.

Based on the article, it does seem that is the way they are going, to the State, not the Fed. Maybe I read it wrong. And, if this were marketed correctly to play to the liberal arrogance and made it's way on the ballot, somehow, it might pass muster.

Liberals hate conservatives and don't recognize the value of freedom and entrepreneurial and capitalistic enterprise. If they believe that ridding themselves of this disease that is conservatism would allow them to "truly" employ their utopian socialistic society in their own state, I think they indeed would kick the evil capitalists out to form their own state.

That said, I think that map would change quite a bit before the dust settled. Old California is not going to give up San Jose or Orange County. I'd be surprised if they gave up San Diego, how would half their citizens get home?

They would have more traction if they sold advertising rights.

Welcome to the State of Jefferson - endorsed by Monsanto and AT&T.

Then make Old California a Protectorate. Those people obviously cannot govern themselves.

It is possible to drill along the fault line, until they drift off into the Pacific somewhere? Then they can set up the true liberal utopia they dream about. Granted, we lose Hollywood, but I think if I try real hard I can live with that.

I don’t think you’d need to change the US Constitution. California would need to approve it using whatever means is applicable and then the Congress would need to approve it.

Wait a minute, now. NEW CALIFORNIA would get the 2 new votes. OLD CALIFORNIA would lose a lot of its House votes. If New California is as constitutional and conservative as they claim to be, this could be a win for the country, IMO.

We are in Los Angeles County. I love this idea - moving to the next county east as soon as possible. ALL the idiots, all the free-loaders, all the politicians who believe in Global Warming and open borders and ebonics and DACA - they all live along the coastal strip. Eastern California is more rural and hard-scrabble, more arid. Well, yes, some meth folks as well out east, but they probably won’t want to be in the new government.

It looks like a great map. We are sick to death of San Fran and Sacto running the show.

The "good" California is gone forever. The only way the "good" California comes back is if millions of illegals are sent packing. And that ain't ever gonna happen short of financial collapse, disease epidemic, or civil war.
