Let the dog live, and the parents seem to be very vindictive.

Where is the parents responsibilty? When you were a kid didn't your parents say not to pull a dog's tail

Did the article say somewhere that the kid pulled the dog’s tail?

I read it and didn’t see that.

From the article
"It was an unprovoked attack," Romero said at the time. "This dog is dangerous. He mauled a little kid and will probably do it again."
SO where do you see that the kid pulled the dog's tail? Or are you one of those soppy dog lovers that think dogs can do no wrong? Frankly, without hesitation I'd kill a dog that attacked and injured a two year old

How many volunteers will be available for food?

Why wait? Farms and ranches might adopt the dog for critter control. There’s all types of critters he’d love to “play” with.

We do not now the whole story. of course. the dog is automatically evil and should be put down, what is wrong with a compromise and no expense to the taxpayers.

As we have no history on the dog except its entry into an adoption organization, it is possible that the dog was being used as a pit animal for a short time and is aggressive. It is also possible we are not receiving all the information from the hearing as the term unprovoked was used in the article.

It is very unfortunate that the animal attacked the child during a “meet and great” for adoption, but better now it happen when experts were on the scene rather than later when the problem was discovered and could have been worse to include death.

Another unfortunate side of this is that a “sanctuary” has offered to take the animal rather an having it put down. But this one incident with this one dog is not going to make the problem go away as there are thousands of dogs out there in the same boat. Who could be the next child and are they willing to take it also? They will run out of money and space and then what happens, put down?

If New York wants to take the dog for the remainder of it’s life, which sounds a lot like prison without parole, then they can foot the bill. But that one is not going to change anything for the animals or the people they harm.

It’s an animal for god sakes people.

My dad had a firm rule that any dog (his or anyone elses) that bit a child was put down (by the owner or himself if necessary) at first opportunity unless there were multiple witnesses that said it was provoked far beyond reason.

And yeah, we had some neighbors who didn’t like us much.

Have you lost your mind??? An animal attacked a human child apparently unprovoked. And you blame the parents and/or the child? Do you really think that a dog's life has more value than that of a human???

Why are you making up a story putting a baby who did nothing at fault? I'm The dog has proved it's dangerous. I pray they put it down.

This was a foster dog that was at an adoption event. Dallas is the worst about killing dogs and has over populated shelters and does nothing about all the dogs being dumped on the outskirts of Dallas.

“...unless there were multiple witnesses that said it was provoked far beyond reason.”

My father had an even harder policy than that. Any dog that attacked a human, whether provoked or not, had to go.

Even if not the dog’s “fault”, he reasoned that once a dog realizes that attacking a human is an option, the horse is out of the barn.

Why are you making up a story putting a baby who did nothing at fault?

A two year old is not a baby, have you ever heard of the term "terrible two's"?

This whole situation is terrible, probably lib parents thinking that this was a "feel good" event and let their child go willy nilly, without warning or informing the child, about a dog's behavior.

Do the compromise and let Rusty live.

How does "euthanized" square with "live out the remainder of his life in a safe and positive environment" ?
