Woman who accused Roy Moore of sexual misconduct sues him for defamation (Leigh Corfman)
Washington Post ^ | 01/04/2018 | Beth Reinhard

Posted on 01/04/2018 2:50:07 PM PST by Drew68

In a lawsuit that echoes a civil case against President Trump, an Alabama woman on Thursday sued failed U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore and his campaign for defamation, citing harsh personal attacks she faced after coming forward with allegations he touched her sexually when she was 14 years old.

Leigh Corfman is not seeking financial compensation beyond legal costs. She is asking for a declaratory judgment of defamation, a public apology from Moore, and a court-enforced ban on him or his campaign publicly attacking her again. She said in a statement that the suit seeks “to do what I could not do as a 14-year-old — hold Mr. Moore and those who enable him accountable.”

A representative of Moore’s campaign, Brett Doster, said he had no immediate comment on the lawsuit, filed in state court in Montgomery County, Ala.

Corfman told The Washington Post in November that when Moore was a 32-year-old assistant district attorney in 1979, he took her to his house, undressed her, touched her over her underpants and bra and guided her hand to touch his genitals over his underwear.

Moore has called Corfman’s allegations of abuse “politically motivated,” “completely false” and “malicious.” On Nov. 10, the day after the story published, he told Sean Hannity of Fox News he had never met Corfman but he did not rule out that he might have dated older teenagers when he was in his 30s.

That’s why he led in the polls by 28% before the AL Dem Party treasure drummed up Corfman.

*************

I’ve seen some early polling where he was up 16-18% but nothing at 28%

Do you have a link to that one?

Moore was not the disaster. The disaster was people being paid to accuse him of untruths.

Roy Moore lost because 600,000+ people who voted for Donald Trump in 2016 didn't vote for Moore in 2017.

There never was going to be an offyear election in which any candidate received what the Presidential candidate received. You are deliberately skewing reasonable expectations here.

You are also deliberately ignoring the cause of why people didn't vote for Moore. The primary cause is that the media accused him of being a child molesting rapist, and nobody wants to vote for a child molesting rapist. Secondly, his party membership behaved as if they believed these unproven accusations, and some of them urged people to vote for Doug Jones and some of them urged people to "write in" another candidate.

This election broke the record for "write ins" in Alabama, and the write ins were more than enough to tip the balance to Moore.

Lying accusations from Democrats, and Party backstabbing from Republicans. *THAT* is what caused people to stay home or vote for someone else.

You can blame the allegations and the GOP leadership for his loss, but you should really be focusing on what happened with all those lost voters.

I have been focusing on them, and I have been trying to get *YOU* to focus on them, but you don't seem to want to focus on the reasons why those people stayed home when all polls indicated Moore was going to win in a landslide.

It is not clear that she is not a public figure. It was her decision to publicly trail her skirt in the election mud. She is, at least, it seems a limited purpose public figure.

I was thinking that myself. Had she stayed out of the limelight, she wouldn't be regarded as a public figure, but coming forward with lurid accusations four decades later, would certainly make her a public figure in my mind.

But I don't know what the law specifically says in Alabama. She might not meet their legal definition.

If Moore had radical views about legislating, then the other Congress-critters would have kept him in line if he proposed stuff that was way out of line. But he would have been a consistent vote for justice, sanctity of human life, etc. on bills that made it to the floor.

But the biggest thing he could do is to be a voice against the self-serving machine. When people fear him being a “loose cannon” this is what they’re talking about. He could have the courage to do the unthinkable and open up the swamp to scrutiny that nobody else will dare to do. They can’t afford to have a guy who isn’t afraid to say the emperor is naked.

And Roy Moore has been willing to touch the “sacred cow” of Obama’s ineligibility. That is a subject that will hopefully be revisited within the context of the lawless deep state that put Obama in power and kept him there. James Clapper and John Brennan are neck-deep in that criminality, and Devin Nunes may burrow through the muck to reach that story too, once he’s exposed the muck against Trump. It’s the same players and methods, and they’ve systematically attacked every facet of our Constitution and its checks and balances. If the full story ever gets out the American public will be stunned.

And every time Moore campaigned it gave the news media an excuse to AGAIN call him an accused child molester.

What kind of campaigning was he supposed to do in such a situation? No matter what he did, the media was going to use it to air unpaid political ads against him.

I hope she classifies as a public figure, since she injected herself into the conversation about a public figure.

I don’t know the exact quotes from Moore, but it could also be possible that he could prove he spoke the truth, if he said that the accusations were politically motivated and it can be shown that the treasurer of the AL Dem Party recruited her accusations for political purposes. If he said that SHE made the accusations for political purposes it might be different. I don’t think there’s any doubt that the accusations were recruited for political purposes; the only question is who Moore said had the political motivation.

Sorry; I was using the figure given by Diogenes Lamp and accepted by his/her opposition here. DL, do you have a linhk for the 28% lead by Moore before the accusations?

When your own party treats you like you are a pariah and urges people to vote for someone else...

...you may conclude that you weren't such a great candidate after all.

What a disaster this guy was.

Perhaps he was but I would prefer to have her prove her case in a court of law. Wouldn't you?

Fortunately for you, that 15 year old girl you fondled back in 1990 knows you have nothing to sue for..........Aren't you lucky!

Best candidate ever!

That is why he was attacked.

Why is there such a huge hole in your understanding?

Were the allegations true, they wpuld have loved him.
