Flawed candidate.

Campaigns can unravel quickly if they're seen to be vulnerable.

Once weak spots appear, moralizers are likely to be taken for hypocrites, and crusaders for egotists.

There are often credible sounding stories about voter fraud, but nothing ever seems to be done about it. I don't doubt some or all of these things happened in Alabama, but who will investigate it? I don't know because none of the stories even seem to be investigated and resolved in any way.

People in New England absolutly believe that several thousand out-of-staters come into New Hampshire and vote and declare they intend to become NH residents with 60 (?) days, but never follow through with the move. But their votes could have swayed the election away from Trump and the Republican senatorial candidate in 2016. And that has happened in several elections, not just 2016.

But nothing has ever been resolved there that I'm aware of.

I'm waiting to see if anything offical happens concerning the military and other overseas votes in Alabama, if they're added to the vote tally.

We often hear voter fraud stories, and never seen to hear of any resolution that I'm aware of.

It made sense to vote for Moore.

But they didn't.

He couldn't communicate a message in a way that resonated with voters. So, blame Moore now and move on to a better candidate in 2 years that voters will like, or blame the voters now and put Roy Moore in front of them again next time.

I hope there is such a video because that would explain the voter fraud

The writing is on the wall for 2018. Virginia and now Alabama. For a historical parallel, look at the history of the Whig party. Unfortunately though I doubt that the uniparty will allow a third party to rise.

Politics is a scam and we’re suckers for playing.

Looking at http://alisondb.legislature.state.al.us/alison/codeofalabama/1975/11-46-53.htm it seems to me that the voting machines themselves are to be sealed until the opportunity to file a contest is gone. Seems to me that means that everything with the machine - internally and externally - is to be left as-is until it’s known there is no contest filed. Setting the machines to delete records before the time allowance for contests seems to me to be in violation of that.

It does NOT seem to me - at all - that these issues are at the discretion of the precincts themselves.

>>>Different rules in Montgomery or Jacksonville than in the rural counties, for instance? And they all get to decide for themselves

For the retention of digital images of the paper ballots, yes each county can decide for itself. For the retention of the paper ballots themselves, no. All counties are required to retain them for 22 months.

It made sense to vote for Moore.

That's not at issue here. What's at issue is that you said that "it made sense" for them not to vote for Moore.

Summary/transcript:

The clip was captured by Fox10 News after it was confirmed that Jones had defeated Republican Roy Moore.

Asked, “Why are you excited to see this victory?,” the man responds, “Because we came here all the way from different parts of the country as part of our fellowship and all of us pitched in to vote and canvas together and we got our boy elected!”

At https://bigleaguepolitics.com/evidence-voter-fraud-alabama-mobile-county-results-come-late/ there are screenshots of Reddit posts asking democrats from surrounding states to go vote in AL.

See my post right before your post to me. At http://alisondb.legislature.state.al.us/alison/codeofalabama/1975/11-46-53.htm it says the voting machines are to be sealed until the opportunity to file a contest is past. Setting the machines to delete the images doesn’t seem to fit that requirement, at all. Once the vote is done and the totals are retrieved from the machines, they are to be sealed.

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall posted this on Tuesday night.

“Digital images of ballots are not required in the event of a recount or an election contest. Original paper ballots are preserved while electronic images generally are not preserved. The same records have always been used in election contests and recounts.

“The vast majority of Alabama ballot scanning machines are not programmed to preserve the images. To change them, as the plaintiffs seek, would not mean simply flipping a switch, but would require the third-party vendor, Elections Systems and Software, to travel to 2000 voting machines around Alabama to change them. This process could not be completed in a day. To attempt it the day before and day of the election would cause chaos, confusion, and delay.”

you said that "it made sense" for them not to vote for Moore.

Yes, it obviously did make sense for them not to do it. 669,015 people in Alabama voted for Trump but didn't vote for Moore. It made sense to them to not vote for Roy Moore. I can't tell you what those reasons were, but they existed. It was Roy Moore's job to figure that out and motivate them and he didn't do it.

Somewhere in all those laws it says that voting machines doesn’t include electronic voting, which is instead governed by Title 17 (which can be seen at https://law.justia.com/codes/alabama/2013/title-17/ ). But looking there, it seems like the same disposition exists for the electronic records as for paper ones: they must be sealed until the opportunity for a contest is past.

At https://law.justia.com/codes/alabama/2013/title-17/chapter-7/section-17-7-21/ it says:

“(b) Notwithstanding subsection (a), no electronic vote counting system shall be used unless it has been constructed so that it:.........(12) Is capable of accurately and correctly tabulating each vote and having the same so certified.”

How does the counting system in AL certify the correct tabulation of each vote?

You presume that the numbers we have are accurate. What if they aren’t accurate? How would you know?

I’m afraid the old Will Rogers quote applies to all this talk about voter fraud. Just substitute voter fraud at the appropriate place.

“Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it.”

At least President Trump set something in motion, but forces opposing the effort can seem almost as uncontrollable as the weather.

IF there really was a precinct that had 1100 registered voters that processed 26,000 ballots

Where did you hear that?

Well, I guess you would have to ask yourself which outcome is more probable:

1) Moore really won the election, but the vote totals were off by 670,000 votes by mistake or fraud in Jones' favor.

or

2) Roy Moore wasn't a likeable candidate.
