What the Heck Happened in Alabama?
American Thinker.com ^ | December 15, 2017 | Lloyd Marcus

Years ago, my brother David gave me a nugget of wisdom. He advised, "When faced with a crisis, stabilize your emotions before responding/acting." Thus, I thought it best to wait a day or so before sharing my thoughts about Roy Moore losing in Alabama.

Moore's loss simply does not make sense. Alabama is a red state. It is hard to believe Alabama voters chose Jones, who supports killing babies even at the point of birth, over 38-year-old unproven sexual misconduct allegations against Moore. Yes, I smell the foul stench of Democrat voter fraud in the Alabama senate race.

We've heard the term partial-birth abortion, but most folks don't know what it is. The abortionist takes the entire baby out of its mother except for the head. He then shoves scissors into the baby's brain to kill it. Planned Parenthood is elated when abortionists can murder the baby without too much damage to the baby's head. Intact heads sell for premium prices. Jones supports this horrific evil.

Rather that believing Alabama voters knowingly chose a man who supports murdering babies and trafficking their body parts, I tend to believe fake news media successfully hid Jones' hostility towards unborn innocent human life. Leftists celebrate Jones' mindset because Leftists deem killing babies environmentally responsible; necessary to save the planet from too many humans. Step on a spotted frog and Leftists are outraged at you!

Like nothing we've seen before, Leftists saturated the airwaves, social media, and fake news media with 24/7 attacks on Moore, his wife and anyone supportive of him.

Okay, then I owe you an apology for mistaking your intent. You did write it cleerly enough, but I am reading your comments on a small screen and mistook what you had said. I am sorry. I try not to do that.

No worries. You're a good man.

I'm not taking a pass on anything here. Everything you've posted here is absolutely correct. I'm looking at this in the context of the entire election cycle going all the way back to the initial GOP primary. McConnell and the GOP establishment pushed Roy Moore as a candidate because they wanted Mo Brooks out of the race, and they expected Moore to lose to Luther Strange in the runoff. Think about that: They pushed Moore because they saw him as a loser.

They got what they wanted in the first primary round, but then Moore beat Strange (unexpectedly, for them) in the runoff.

The whole thing was botched by the GOP leadership from the start. I've said this on every thread from the start.

My major complaint about Moore is that his approach to this campaign reinforced the whole idea that he was just not up to the job -- either as a candidate or as a U.S. Senator. It's really that simple. I'm not letting anyone off the hook here ... from the national GOP leadership all the way down to the voters of Alabama.

Think of Roy Moore as the Alabama version of Pat Buchanan from the 1990s. Good man, principled conservative, but a political disaster.

P.S. -- I've gotten enough posts and Freep-Mail messages from Alabama voters here on FR to convince me that my take on this is a pretty accurate assessment of what happened in Alabama.

Mine was scanned with a tablet computer. Elmore County.

Do you think this scan simply took a photo of the ID for the record, or did it compare any data on the ID to the registered voter list?

Also, there is still only a minority of states who’ve been able to keep a voter ID law in force. Alabama is one of those, whatever the number is at present. So many have been overturned by various courts. Still more work to be done in most stattes to even get to the voter ID requirement to help ensure the integrity of elections.

>>>Roy Moore was a good man, but was he a good candidate?

After securing the primary runoff he made little effort to expand beyond his base. In the last month he made few appearances, and those he did make were literally preaching to the choir, as they took place in churches. Also, he has historically underperformed in statewide elections.

Among many good things Moore is for, Moore is pro life.

It made sense to vote for Moore.

Roy Moore was a good man, but was he a good candidate?

A lot of your fellow citizens in Alabama apparently decided the same thing even before Tuesday.

You did not come up with this thought, but here you are backing it anyway.

What is that even supposed to mean? Seriously!

Why sure he was a good man. Why sure he was good on abortion even partial birth abortion. Why yes he would have been good on judicial nominees, cutting funding to Planned Parenthood, and cutting taxes.

Even so, I just could not vote for him because he was a lousy candidate!

This makes sense to you? That's how you evaluate candidates? Just dang folks...

You have spent the better part of two days now, trashing Moore for being a terrible candidate and going to an Army/Navy game.

Never-mind that his problem which is now past, will surface again with similar results across our nation because of the GOPe and it's minions across the fruited plane.

So instead of addressing a problem that still exists, you trash a man that held your ideals and wanted to support them in our nation's capital. You say you disagree with the party leadership, but Moore is who you focus on again and again and again. Why?

Moore's not running again. Lord forbid anyone else with his same political views do either, because you've just spent the better part of two days depicting the type of support that person would likely get before and after their election. Great job there. I'm sure the GOPe is delighted.

No mention of McConnell's anti Moore statements.

No mention of Ryan's anti Moore statements.

NO mention of Trump's early dissing of Moore.

No mention of Shelby doing robo-calls against Moore.

No mention of no get out the vote effort by the Republicans, or more specifically telling them to stay home or vote for Jones.

No mention of the Republicans coming up with a write-in candidate, who got nearly the margin of difference in votes.

No mention of the negative Leftist media coverage, in papers, on the internet, on television and yes even FoxNews.

No mention of the women whose charges were vaporware, and how our party's leaders reacted to them to trash Moore. No mention of how the media played off those charges to depict Moore as a child-molester.

Nope, Moore is your focus. More didn't campaign well with 1/14th the cash his opponent had access too. He also went to an Army/Navy game three days before the election. Who could vote for that guy? That's your take on it. You've expressed it here over and over.

Moore is not my favorite man on the planet. Despite that, I'm damned glad he ran instead of some other GOPe milk-toast that would more than likely vote against Conservative interests more often than not.

I will defend him here and now, because he stood up for my ideals. That's all I ask any candidate to do.

People knew where he stood on the issues, and they stood by and let the Beltway Boobs pull one more fast one, just like they've been doing for the last 70 years.

Now I have to take people by the hand and explain this to them? Well yes I do.

Sheesh!

Were there poll watchers? There’s a reason Lois Lerner’s IRS targeted “True the Vote”.

I vote in a small community and precinct that is overwhelmingly conservative. No idea if there were poll watchers. The chances that there is any voter fraud going in my precinct is minute. But I doubt there were poll watchers because that requires someone with some knowledge and skill, and a good amount of confidence and nerve. Poll watchers would probably be utilized elsewhere, unless they’d been sent in by the DNC or the UN.

Tbanks for the response.

I’m not going to say much in response, but I do want to note that I responded to another of your posts, not having read this one.

On the issue of you taking the leadership to task, I have run into your posts tens of times, and I have to say that I haven’t seen you taking the leadership to task absent two things.

One, you say you disagree with them, and they turn right around and say you can fully understand why they’d abandon Moore. And in the context of this election, that pretty much absolves them of everything they did. Why could you do that?

Two, you spend almost all your time talking about what a disaster Moore was. The man still made a very good showing at the poll being outspend 14 to 1, and all the other things I have mentioned. A disaster of a candidate cannot do that. I’m sorry but the fact simply do not buttress the claim he was a terrible candidate. He nearly won.

As for the good people of Alabama, they now have two Senators by choice, one that backs the things Jones does, and another that backed Jones.

There’s absolutely no excuse for that.

It was the R Sec of State who asked that the records be destroyed immediately. If the GOPee sent in observers it wouldn’t mean anything, because they wanted Moore to lose just as much as the D’s did.

I haven’t read the details of the Sec of State’s action concerning the destruction of voting records. That sounds totally bizarre and I understand some court upheld it. I’ll have to read about it to try and discern what motives were behind that.

Moore was never a very popular politician in Alabama. The best he ever did in previous elections was 52 percent of the vote—rather mediocre, I would say.

As DJT said, we must put up “GREAT” candidates, not lame, mediocre or controversial ones.

He did not ask that the be destroyed immediately. He asked that the court block an order to preserve the digital voting records. Counties are free to retain them if they choose to. The law only requires retention of the paper ballots. The court and the SoS were simply following the law that was put in place by the legislature.

What law is that? The SOS claimed that the plaintiffs lacked standing because the SOS can’t tell precincts what to do. (See http://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/2017/12/in_final-hour_order_court_rule.html ) Is that true? Each precinct can make its own rules?

Different rules in Montgomery or Jacksonville than in the rural counties, for instance? And they all get to decide for themselves whether there is any evidence of what was done - either by poll workers or by the voting machine and/or tabulation procedures?

Is that true? AL state law says that every precinct can do what they want, and the SOS has nothing to do with it?

I always thought combatting voter fraud should have been Trump’s #1 strategic objective.
