Mitch McConnell Is The Reason Doug Jones Is A Senator
The Federalist ^ | 12/12/17 | Jordan Gehrke

While Mitch McConnell and his allies will try to blame conservatives for nominating Roy Moore, it’s important to remember that McConnell is the main reason Roy Moore was nominated.

The moment it was clear there would be a Special Election to replace Jeff Sessions, McConnell and his PAC, Senate Leadership Fund (SLF) declared they would back Luther Strange and vowed to spend millions on his behalf.

Strange was a flawed candidate from the jump. The circumstances around his appointment by scandal-ridden Governor Robert Bentley were sketchy at best, and rightly or wrongly, voters just never trusted him.

Looking back, an establishment candidate like Strange, beset by issues surrounding his appointment was never going to win a runoff in an anti-establishment state like Alabama–certainly not in the year after Donald Trump was elected.

Does anyone actually think that the Rats wouldn’t have gone after Strange with a vicious smear campaign just like they did with Moore?

The could flip McCain, Flake, Graham, or Snow. But that wouldn’t move the needle for them.

The GOP through McConnell and Ryan have shat on
the American People, and yet... the GOP
loves them and supports them still.

Is there a better reason for ending the GOP forever?

If you are a Republican in 2017 and you lose a statewide election in Alabama, then it’s safe to say you were unelectable by any objective measure. I love Bannon’s political philosophy but his political acumen took a serious hit yesterday.

How is it that Alabama Republicans selected Moore in the primary? Why didn't Brooks do better? Didn't Bannon appear at Moore's primary rally only because he was ahead of Brooks against McConnell's Strange?

Can you really blame Bannon for Moore in the first place, or is that on Alabama Republicans themselves?

You won’t hear me defending the Alabama GOP here. From the leadership all the way down to the voters, they really came across as the dumbest state political organization in the country.

McDorkell is the reason we don’t have a Republican party.
He is so typical of your unaccomplished, unintelligent terrain following spineless RINO.

How is it that Alabama Republicans selected Moore in the primary?
________________________________________________________

Correct! I was listening to Breitbart radio a lot during the primary and Mo Brooks was their overwhelming choice in the primary. Bannon did what the Repub swamp rats SHOULD have done and worked to keep a Dem out of the seat. Another reason I will never again donate to the Republican Party - just individual candidates.

Article is spot on. Sets the stage for AG Sessions to come out of his coma in 2020 and run for his old seat. Hopefully get an AG with a pulse.

So what? Once the guy gets the nomination you put your personal feelings aside and work to get the guy across the finish line. Hell I even did it for McCain and Romney, because I knew the alternative was much worse.

Not sure what that means, but contrast Moore's last few days in the campaign trail to the 4-5 rallies Donald Trump was doing every day -- hundreds of miles apart, and often in different time zones -- in the final weeks of the 2016 campaign.

I suspect a lot of voters in Alabama simply looked at Roy Moore and saw a lazy, detached loser.

Looks like a lot of Freepers are dancing on Roy’s grave as much as Democrats, and attacking Bannon to boot.

Nominate McCain’s and Flake’s. Allred won’t attack them. Keep that Rino purity.

No blame for the media here? Blame Moore. Got it.

While Mitch is a destestable weasle and needs to be replaced by someone with a spine...... the ONLY person to blame for this is Crazy Roy himself.

Sharron Angle, Troy Akin, Richard Mourdock, Christine O'Donnell, and now Roy Moore. The lesson here is that fringe religious nut-job candidates are unelectable at the state level, even in Alabama. It doesn't help when they spent their 30s banging teenagers.

If Bannon wants to play kingmaker, he'd better vet these guys more thoroughly.

Don’t stab our candidate in the back, and then whine that he’s a “weak candidate”.

Don’t concoct a completely dishonest smear campaign against our candidate, and then bitch about him having “baggage”.

Don’t cut our candidate off from party support, and then moan about him not being able to run a campaign.

Mitch McConnell got exactly what he wanted and paid for: a communist Swampocrat was elected to the Senate, rather than a constitutionalist statesman. Donald Trump was complicit with him from the beginning.

I can’t fault McConnell here. In fact, it is completely disingenuous for Moore supporters to complain about McConnell working to undermine Moore when it was Moore himself who promised not to support McConnell as Senate Majority Leader. This was a completely unnecessary move on Moore’s part, especially since I am not aware of any move in the GOP to put someone else up as an alternative to McConnell.

Be careful, I got yelled at for pointing out those very same things... after all , its quite normal back then for 30 year old men to creep around teens...
