What the Flynn Plea Means
National Review ^ | Dec. 1, 2017 | Andrew McCarthy

Posted on 12/02/2017 7:43:04 AM PST by libstripper

There’s less to the news than meets the eye.

Former Trump-administration national-security adviser Michael Flynn is expected to plead guilty today to lying to the FBI regarding his conversations with Russia’s ambassador to the United States.

Flynn, who is reportedly cooperating with the investigation of special counsel Robert Mueller, is pleading guilty in federal district court in Washington, D.C., to a one-count criminal information (which is filed by a prosecutor in cases when a defendant waives his right to be indicted by a grand jury).

The objective is to spin this out to next summer to impact the congressional elections. This uncertainty will last another 18 months. If GOP looses the House then they will impeach on any charge.

Information about the conversation with the Russian was leaked to the media several days before Flynn first talked to the FBI. He knew they had transcripts. Why did he lie? Perhaps to be in the position he is right now. He can freely talk about any and all dealings with the Trump and “OBAMA” administration without being charged. Read the plea agreement. Perhaps Flynn is taking a minor one for the team to get the info out. Remember Flynn’s mindset. It is “Military.” Give all to defeat the enemy (OBAMA.)

Moral of the story, don’t give statements to the government. Keep your mouth shut and hire a good attorney.

"We definitely should be “engaged” and be talking with them. Duh!"

Common sense is not allowed in government......

>>>>> If Flynn did nothing wrong in talking to the Russkies and in what they talked about, then WHY did Flynn lie to the FBI (and to VP Pence)?!?
<<<<<

Indeed. Flynn is deep in the super spy thing. Intelligence for decades and good at it. Why indeed did he lie? Especially since he surely knew that he was being monitored as he knew Kislyak was being monitored....it’s almost l8ke he did it on purpose. What other explanation is there? He knew he was being monitored but lied anyway. I reckon there is a reason that an experienced spook could plan.

Imagine this as a scenario:

1) Trump never did anything illegal or unethical with “the Russians.”

2) He fired Flynn for not fully or immediately disclosing a meeting with a Russian. He did that not because the meeting had any intrinsic importance whatsoever but because failure to tell him and Pence about it was important.

3) Mueller comes up with some differing memories about what happened at a particular time and characterizes the differences as an act of lying.

4) Mueller, along with Comey, both known for years to be duplicitous, conniving, power-hungry, treacherous assholes, had worked closely with Hillary to put through the Uranium One deal, even serving as a courier to deliver a sample of the uranium, has been placed by another involved in the Uranium One deal in a position to investigate any dealings Trump may have had with the Russians based on a phony dossier paid for by Hillary through a couple cut-out law firms to Fusion GPS working with Steele and Ukrainians.

5) Mueller has been accumulating around himself at great public expense a giant coterie of Hillary supporters and campaign donors to help him develop something to be used against the one who defeated in a brilliantly humiliating way the woman he was fronting for in the Uranium One deal.

6) He has virtually unlimited power even though he is occupying that position illegally because the one who appointed him do so contrary to statute.

7) He announces he’s charging Manafort for something that has nothing to do with the matter at hand and, given that he is not operating in conformance with the statute, that charging is a violation of law.

8 ) He announces he’s charging Flynn for lying to the FBI over differences in recollection in different interviews at different times and then attempting to use that with dire threats to coerce Flynn into giving him something, anything, to use against Mueller’s partner in Uranium One, Hillary.

So, some questions:

1) If Flynn actually had knowledge of anything illegal Trump had done in some matter the Democrats after the election were claiming happened, why would Trump ever have fired him?

2) If you, as Flynn, knew you were dealing with someone known by you and many others to be a scumbag of the highest order now imbued (though illegally) with unlimited power to screw you over, would you say you would “cooperate” and run out the clock in the hopes that even more of Mueller’s cabal’s perfidy will be revealed, or do you immediately tell him to pound sand?

3) Who, at this point, is actually in more trouble, Flynn, or the one who is, along with his partners in crime, Comey and Hillary, up to his elbows in a huge amount of shady dealings that abused the offices and resources of the federal government they had hoped by this time to completely control?

I can hear a defense attorney now. “You say you lied to the FBI once before? And we’re supposed to believe you are telling us the truth now? Which truth are we supposed to believe?”

McCarthy is guessing wrong.

Mueller only charged Flynn with enough to get him talking about any and everything.

Flynn is facing 5 years and his son is also at risk for prosecution.

Any other filings would have given away Mueller’s other targets.

Mueller is harvesting info about any rabbit hole they want to chase down, Trump’s campaign, transition, taxes, business interests, Kushner, the kids, anything.

Mueller is a pro at leveraging targets. You can bet Flynn will be very busy on the future witness stands to come.

Mueller/Comey/Dem Cabal wants Trump impeached, nothing less.

0bama hates Flynn, in fact 0bama fired Flynn.
0bama imposes sanctions on Russia.
Current Whitehouse claims 0bama Whitehouse approved Flynn meeting with Russia Ambassador to tamp down hard feelings and maintain relations

Flynn (I believe Flynn would say to himself) WTF, you want me to do what???
Flynn proceeds to make five phone calls to Russia Ambassador in one day (??)
Comedy or Jarrett prolly gave Flynn the talking points.
Flynn KNOWS 0bama is wiretapping all calls.

Then Flynn “forgets” to answer truthfully to the FBI with respect to this oddball request from someone who hates him and fired him!

Methinks Flynn is relieved and ready to tell the truth and whole truth to a legal body open to hearing the Truth

I completely agree, but even tho McCarthy leans NeverTrump, he is an extremely savvy attorney. Sometimes I detect his NeverTrump attitude infecting his legal analysis but I certainly trust him more than any DC insider, and in this case/article, IMO he is spot on and perfectly accurate.

Now, President Trump WH claims 0bama WH approved and permitted Flynn (whom 0bama fired) to talk to the Russians.

Flynn talks to Russians five times (??) on Dec 29.

How could Flynn “forget/lie” about such a matter, when Flynn knows all calls are taped??

There’s only so much Flynn knows. Doubtful he knows anything about any tax filings or business deals.

listening to that moron is your first mistake...that guys been wrong about everything in regards to Trump....second, a prosecutor cannot “subourn perjured testimony”...but anyway, Flynns credibility is shot now...hes just trying to save his son. Muellers just trying to get dummies that lied. Let this be a lesson to all..NEVER TALK TO THE COPS.

i heard that there was so much going on in the transition, that Flynne got confused about different things when he talked to the FBI....the Fbi originally said as much when they reviewed his interview, and didnt charge him....but then Mueller reviewed it and thought differently and charged him...hey, hes gotta make it look good instead of a witch hunt. Thats how they got Scooter Libby..he was older and got confused about when a phone call to Tim Russert occured...had zero to do with the investigation, yet they still when after him. Why Flynn talked to the FBI without a lawyer is beyond me.

Flynn was in the inner circle and would be the prime source for every bit of gossip and conversation between Trump and Kushner.

Does anyone think it's odd that more than six weeks have passed since the guilty plea was announced, and there still has been no sentencing hearing scheduled?

On top of that, the judge was mysteriously recused, and not a word has been heard from Flynn.

I wonder if this FISA warrant also impacts this case.

OK. So, when is the DOJ going to start prosecuting Hillary, Huma, Weiner, Comey, McCabe, Clapper, Brennan, Mills, Holder, and a host of others for their "process" crimes of lying to the FBI or under oath?

Right. I didn't think so.
