Once again, it could all come down to Senator John McCain.
After sinking his party’s hopes of repealing the Affordable Care Act this year with a dramatic thumbs-down, the fate of a tax overhaul may now sit in the hands of the Republican from Arizona. In recent days, Mr. McCain has been fairly tight-lipped about his views on the tax proposal speeding through the Senate, saying he sees some problems with the existing bill but is waiting for a final plan before making a decision.
Asked about what concerned him about the Senate tax bill this week, Mr. McCain replied tersely: “A lot of things.”
Even those who know Mr. McCain best are unsure how he will vote, but if history is any guide, Republicans have reason to worry.
Mr. McCain has voted against big tax cuts before, including two that passed under another Republican president: George W. Bush. In that case, he bucked the majority of his party on the grounds that the 2001 and 2003 cuts overwhelmingly benefited the rich — a widespread criticism of the current Senate legislation and the bill that has already passed the House. Mr. McCain is also a deficit hawk and could find it hard to swallow a tax cut that will add around $1.5 trillion to the federal debt over 10 years.

Out of the 3.5 TRILLION in Federal tax receipts last year, how much did corporations pay?
Try 375 billion, the SMALLEST part after personal income tax at 1.2 TRILLION, FICA Medicare at 1.4 TRILLION, and Excise taxes at about a trillion.
The corporate cut to 20% will result in a net reduction in revenue of about 150 billion out of 3.5 TRILLION.
It’s chump change, they want the middle class deductions gone so they have full control of the W-2 Suckers cash.

We’ll see who the “designated maverick” is soon enough.If there is one. Personally, I think the tax bill passes. It has all the hallmarks of gop faction/ uniparty legislation: it serves the needs of gop patrons, it is difficult to understand, and it screws over conservatives and the middle class.

For McCain to hold the final vote, it means that two other Republicans must also be traitors.
It is beyond me that two people can hold this up, and thus doom the Republican prospects in 2018.
It should come as no surprise that tax cut legislation favors those who pay taxes.
I will pay more, as my wife and I have two professional incomes and we will lose the ability to write off CA’s high state income taxes.
Yet, I favor this legislation, as it is best for the country.
No one likes to be told they’ve been played for a sucker. Even if it’s true.

Nobody is stopping you from sending ALL of your money to the DC degenerates to piss away if thats what turns you on.
Whats best for the country is to cut the corporate rate to 20% and LEAVE THE MIDDLE CLASS AND OUR DEDUCTIONS ALONE.
This bill doesn’t take away corporate deductions, only from W-2 taxpayers.
This bill sucks, and if Trump signs it , he will be a one term President and lose the House in 2018.
These deductions are for the benefit of high income people, especially, people like me, who live in blue states.
This bill will be great for the economy, and will thus benefit everyone.
But I will pay more. Why should other states subsidize CA? I can’t think of a good reason, either.

Trump wants to simplify the tax code. He is taking some political hits for it for sure. The easiest thing politically would be to just leave it alone. I suspect that is what will end up happening. What they are proposing is good but it will pit states against one another. There is just too much of a political price to pay to simplify the tax code and some people would just prefer the bloated tax code.

I think this so called Tac Reform/Cut stinks. It envisions a tax system right out of the Ancien Regime. So McCain might do the right thing for the wrong reason.

I tend to agree, that his hatred for America is greater than his hatred for Trump. I remember he voted against the Alaskan pipeline, and gave himself credit for its defeat. The pipeline would have greatly benefited the United States. McCain said it would have spoiled the scenery, which is NOT true, but no one sees it anyway. The caribou love the present pipeline.
