Abortion rates in the United States have fallen to a historic low, according to the latest data compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The CDC report, which was released on Wednesday, found that the abortion rate nationwide dropped two percent between 2013 and 2014 amid the use of more effective contraception, the shuttering of many abortion clinics and an overall decline in pregnancy rates.

“Following nationwide legalization of abortion in 1973, the total number, rate, and ratio of reported abortions increased rapidly, reaching the highest levels in the 1980s before decreasing at a slow yet steady pace,” the report states. “Nonetheless, throughout the years, the incidence of abortion has varied considerably across subpopulations and remains higher in some demographic groups than others.”

Especially since STD rates are through the roof.

If more women are having babies out of wedlock, it may be a Pyrrhic victory.

Why wouldn’t it be accurate? Following a strictly mathematical model, albeit somewhat and sensitive to the subject matter, this is simple regression to the mean. When something new begins there is always a growth that far out paces where it will reside over the long term. In the case of abortion, the new law opened up an outlet to millions of women to obtain something that was limited in nature to them previously. Hence, the large number of abortions throughout the 70s and early 80s.

As the newness and availability of abortions became common, to some extent social norms, societal pressures, education, etc. all produced a regression to the mean. While abortions are still too high and way too common, the story is accurate and woukd have no reason to disbelieve.

I think it’s more a question of not that many babies to abort because people resort to nonreproductive intimacy.

If the numbers of abortions are truly down, I thank God.

If the children do present a problem, we will need to address it.

Trump is doing his best to boost the economy, and I think that will help overall.

We have prayed for fewer butchered preborn. I give thanks for that today.

Chances are the promiscuous sex which leads to abortion isn’t down.

Here’s one reason: sky high STD rates. Unless those STDs are being acquired in large numbers by gays/geezers, then you’d expect that much unprotected sex to result in an increase in unwanted pregnancies.

In any case, when it comes to any info generated by government, 3 words: Trust but verify. :-)

Someone who’s victimized by a perp from a dysfunctional family may feel otherwise.

My prayer: that someday every child born is wanted.

Though I suppose women relying on the pill but not using any kind of barrier method could account for the STD angle, too....

Highest STD’s in the country are in The Villages, Florida one of the most Republican areas of the country. Politics sure don’t decide who is immoral that’s for sure.

I remember when the abortion rate was essentially zero.

What’s historic about a couple of points down?

While abortions are still too high and way too common

One abortion is too high, and too common.

Abortion is the abuser's final tool to cover up his crimes. You might even call it the final solution to the baby question.

Mewzilla, it has been the view of Conservatives, that abortions are wrong. If you disagree with that, I can’t help you.

I am thankful that fewer preborn humans are being butchered for profit.

I have no idea why you’re being such a debbie-downer on this.

It is good news.
