Outnumbered male college students in Texas have created a sharp gender gap in statewide completion rates and, according to the states higher education commissioner, a campus cultural problem for men.
Were getting to the point where males feel uncomfortable on some college campuses, said Raymund Paredes, who leads Texas higher education coordinating board.
Paredes spoke Thursday at the University of Houston Systems board meeting to address progress toward broader statewide goals of having 60 percent of young adults in Texas earn a post-secondary degree or certificate by 2030.
He identified several target populations that are lagging in achieving those goals: black students, Hispanic students, economically disadvantaged students and men.
Male students in Texas earned 62,211 degrees and certificates from public four-year universities in 2016, far behind female students, who received 82,700, according to the coordinating boards data. That gap has persisted since at least 2014.
This is a situation that is unsustainable, he said.
Paredes said that some Texas campuses enroll 60 percent women and 40 percent men and added that black and Hispanic men are the least well-represented subgroups in higher education.

I question the masculinity of any ‘guy’ making such a statement. An equipment check may be in order.
Zactly. Campuses have been increasingly feminized same as the military, for decades. Its disgusting. Same with grade schools, forward!
This article is subtle, but seems to circle back to concern for representation of minority men on campus, it seems to me. More affirmative action. Thats the ticket. Forget about merit.
He identified several target populations that are lagging in achieving those goals: black students, Hispanic students, economically disadvantaged students and men.Maybe another workshop on white privilege or toxic masculinity would help?
So why is that?
That most educators are feminist women, looking to empower women, focusing on making girls successful, probably has something to do with that. I’ve read cases where female teachers have openly said “now it’s our turn, I don’t care about the boys”. Curriculum changes that orient math around how females think and focus more on areas they do better at are also factors.
When my son graduated from his college the balance was not even close to 60/40. It was more like 80/20 female/male. When he was younger his (female) math teacher said he wasn’t a A-grade student. When I asked her to reconcile that against the fact that he earned 100% scores on tests she had no answer, other than to say “she knows what she’s talking about because she has three daughters in college”. Her insulting attitude to me, assuming I had no education, made it perfectly clear - she had a very low opinion of men, I can’t see how it wouldn’t be reflected in her teaching.
Notice the litany of protected groups who are “lagging” but then just plain old “men” tumbles out like a lead brick. This is a concealment trick that is used to disguise statistics pertaining to white males all the time.
Want to make them look like criminals? Lump everybody together, thereby tarring white males with crime stats of other protected groups. Or, suddenly morph a high-crime group into “white” in order to make crime statistics look less stark as is often the case with Hispanic males.
Want to hide the fact that white males are being penalized by minority and gender-based set-asides to the point that enrollment numbers have declined precipitously? Just trot out the big old lump of “men” again.
What you’ll never see is a specific statistical breakout that makes white males look good, unless it’s depicted in a negative manner tied to supposed discrimination or “privilege.” You’ll also never see a specific breakout that demonstrates just how badly white males are being discriminated against in university admissions and hiring.
The devil is in the details as always.
She certainly isn’t contemplating her navel. She probably can’t find it!
I thought medical school and law school were increasingly graduating more women.
And I wouldn't volunteer to help her look, either. What do you think of the faux leopard skin? Rrrrrrowr! /S
Most exercise she’s had in 2 decades...unless she was speed eating cookies.
You are correct.
An attractive sorority type Asian babe, save for the River-in-Egypt personality...
It sounds like she was treated as a poor, sweet, delicate, innocent flower whose actions were the result of her sensitive feelings being hurt, and thus not her fault.
Outnumbered by chicks? What’s your REAL problem, Nancy boy?
So with our now quasi-socialized medicine you also get less intelligent doctors. Luckily I’ll skate by and be long gone when the old docs die and what’s left as internists, aka Primary Care Physicians, are the “diversity” docs.
White, Christian, heterosexual, male. The new minority.
“White, Christian, heterosexual, male. The new minority.”
Yeah, the minority with NO rights at all.
.
Well, I’m Jewish, but same idea.
Good God....what is it?
