My oldest son, wrestling with a 4-year-old’s happy struggles, is trying to clarify how many people can be his best friend. “My best friends are you and Mama and my brother and …” But even a child’s joy is not immune to this ominous political period. This summer’s images of violence in Charlottesville, Va., prompted an array of questions. “Some people hate others because they are different,” I offer, lamely. A childish but distinct panic enters his voice. “But I’m not different.”
It is impossible to convey the mixture of heartbreak and fear I feel for him. Donald Trump’s election has made it clear that I will teach my boys the lesson generations old, one that I for the most part nearly escaped. I will teach them to be cautious, I will teach them suspicion, and I will teach them distrust. Much sooner than I thought I would, I will have to discuss with my boys whether they can truly be friends with white people.
Meaningful friendship is not just a feeling. It is not simply being able to share a beer. Real friendship is impossible without the ability to trust others, without knowing that your well-being is important to them. The desire to create, maintain or wield power over others destroys the possibility of friendship. The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous dream of black and white children holding hands was a dream precisely because he realized that in Alabama, conditions of dominance made real friendship between white and black people impossible.

As against our gauzy national hopes, I will teach my boys to have profound doubts that friendship with white people is possible.

Friendship is a decision. May these children realize that.
I have had similar experiences. I have also had people on FR say that opiods were made to kill only white people.
Whites need to stop apologizing for their existence, stop accepting being put at the back of every line, and embrace a positive group identity just like every other ethnic group gets to do.
Payback will be multiplied a million times over when Whites are a minority.
I threw up a little in my mouth while reading this.
I grew up in the South. Attended a HS which was about 70/30 BW. This was early 80’s. Lemme tell you, the black folks did NOT want to be friends with the white folks.
I was small for my age and regularly bullied by 2 different black girls in my class. One had more muscles than any of the boys in our class. She was about 30 lbs. heavier than me and loved nothing more than walking up behind me in P.E. class and grabbing me in a head lock, or trying to jump on my back right in front of our female coach, who said and did NOTHING about it, ever.
The other was a skinny black girl who reminded me of that cartoon of the little scrawny chihuahua who raises hell at everyone because it has a GIANT BULLDOG hanging out with it, offering protection. She had several HUGE black girls with her, ALWAYS who were 17 and in the ninth grade. She tried to start crap with every white girl in our class on a daily basis. You never EVER saw her alone in the hallway or restroom. Ever.
My sister was harassed DAILY on our school bus by a black girl who just made it clear she HATED white folks.
I could not wait to get the HELLLL out of that school and town.

A friend said, “I read the NYT for everything but the news.”
I used to enjoy the NYT, in spite of its liberal bent, because of its wry and polished prose.
But this past year the NYT has become unreadable. Even the lighter fare — especially the arts section — has become a giant SJW mouthpiece. The constant topics are diversity, inclusion, discrimination, inequality, inequity, LGBT, etc.
I stick to the WALL STREET JOURNAL for some conservative relief. It is far more in reality.
Well, yeah.
We have our own Palestinians, those taught from birth to hate us.
John Derbyshire got fired for something like that.

A writer that isn’t “melanin-challenged” has considerably more latitude.

That the “Slimes” printed this justifies, again, why I stopped reading that crappy rag in 1961, yes, 1961. I was in college and knew enough to know when I was reading UNEDITED or, what the editor wanted me to read. In either case I chose to never read the paper again.
Have not missed a thing, just as I don’t miss the National Felon League.

Most of us don’t worry if our children will be able to have Japanese friends - or friends from India or black friends. It would be nice but it’s not necessary... Same for your son...lots of black kids around for him to be friends with if he’s not trusting white kids ...
