He got his butt kicked, ass kicked or even the $hit kicked out of him. There’s really no nice way to say it. The guy who attacked him, intended to do great bodily harm or even kill. There might have even been some real kicks delivered to his ribcage to do that kind of damage. I’m guessing the guy outweighed Rand by 30 or 40 pounds. The federal statutes say 1 year in prison and a fine for assaulting a member of Congress. That guy needs to serve the full 12 months. And lose his medical license.
