Yeah, have to suspect drugs, though plenty of mental imbalance comes simply from being a raging leftard.
Also, I noticed that the assailant let his medical license lapse in 2015 and is listed as “retired” in medicine, even though he is only 59. In my experience doctors usually continue in practice for just as long as possible and don’t retire early, so one must wonder if he had professional and/or mental issues that led to him stopping the practice of medicine. Something to look into....
Judging from the picture (hard to tell accurately though) it looks like this perp got a bit of a “tune up” from someone.
Being tackled would be very unlikely to break 5 ribs (maybe if he landed on a hard object but still unlikely). I have to wonder if the “Dr.” was kicking Rand in the ribs or otherwise trying to pulverize his rib cage. Being a Dr. and a pain specialist he would know very well how to cause pain and where to try to break ribs.
I think we are going to find out this was even more depraved, sadistic, and pre-meditated than first thought. You don’t get 5 broken ribs (3 displaced) just from being tackled to the ground.

Of course, I had no idea that he was so seriously injured when I read about it on Saturday.

It would be foolish to believe this attack on Rand Paul was simply the result of some kind of dispute.
Conservatives, conservative politicians, Christians, businesses, military, and law enforcement are being targeted and losing their lives on an almost weekly basis, for nothing less than who they are, and the system of individual liberty they serve!
What we know -
#1 Regardless of disagreements from conservatives, Rand Paul is a Christian and loves America.
#2 Rand Paul was violently assaulted from behind.
#3 If Rand Paul had been killed or been rendered comatose from this attack, the incident would likely have resulted in the Senate putting off the effort to pass any major legislation.
#4 Conservatism and any person who loves America are under a hateful vitriolic, militant, and thoroughly proactive assault, from the truly anti-American media/press/academia/entertainment juggernaut.
#5 Hatred and FEAR are deliberately being fomented daily, by all methods of media, academia, and social networks, deliberately spreading grossly false narratives, in an very real and now nearly daily tangible effort to motivate insurrection and violence toward conservatives.
#6 Placing their FAITH in - and following the fundamental tenants of the Humanist Manifesto’s I-II, and the natural pathology of humanism to cultural and economic Marxism, the left in America are in a near all out panic and war with conservatism, our Constitution, individual liberty/responsibility, and the Christian oriented beliefs and culture which fights to preserve our US Constitution. Ironically, the same Constitution which has provided for their own protection, liberty, and right to voice their beliefs!
#7 As has been witnessed today, humanists do not love or respect God, do not believe in moral boundaries, *believe the end justifies the means, believe all forms immorality are acceptable, believe it is acceptable to repeatedly lie to both family and the public, to achieve their goals of subjugation and control of others.
#8 The media and press will make sure the truth will be corrupted, compromised, and neutralized!
In the past decade, we have witnessed the left in America actually celebrating destructive behavior and evil, celebrating the demise and even deaths of well known conservative politicians and Christian leaders.
Increasingly in this generation, many influential organizations, including the media, entertainment, and academia have taken part in fomenting and celebrating evil and destruction, and even death of their opponents on many occasions.
As conservatives, it has become truly dangerous and deadly to expect our families, social circles, and churches can even live without fear of physical violence or consequences in the workplace, social circles, and churches!
Very much like the humanistic German intellectuals, “intelligencia”, and politicians used their media & entertainment, press, and academia to attack and make fun of Jews and Christians for several years leading to WWII, in order to segregate them from German society and business, we are now witnessing the same SCYOPS on a larger scale against Christians, Jews, and anyone who believes or respects our US Constitution!
Like many recent attacks, Rand Paul was very likely attacked out of hatred for his conservative and Christian derived beliefs.
The Obamination administration made it acceptable to verbally and actively target conservatives and Christians nation wide, even formally staffing and using agencies of government to maliciously attack any who might act to strengthen our nation, laws, and freedom.
