Senator John McCain delivered a thinly veiled attack of President Trump's lack of military service on Sunday evening.
McCain, who has been criticized about his war hero status by Trump, seemed to retaliate while speaking about the Vietnam War in an interview aired on C-Span Sunday night.
The 81-year-old from Arizona spoke about how wealthy Americans were able to avoid being drafted into service during the battle - in which he spent five years as a prisoner of war - by having a doctor say they had a bone spur.
If that sounds familiar to anyone, that's because it is the excuse that President Trump used in one of his five deferments during Vietnam. The other four were because he was still a college student.
'One aspect of the conflict, by the way, that I will never ever countenance is that we drafted the lowest-income level of America, and the highest-income level found a doctor that would say they had a bone spur,' McCain said in the interview.
'That is wrong. That is wrong. If we are going to ask every American to serve, every American should serve.'

McCain crashed four Navy aircraft, only one was shot out from under him, the others were by his negligence.
Songbird sings again!
NV thanks you for your service.
Which is why McCain was so hard on draft dodging Clinton /s
McCain has been savaging Trump on issues and I was wondering if he was still pissed about what Trump said about him. Looks like I was right.
Don’t forget the aircraft carrier McCain damn near sank. Now he’s onboard the USS Congress, with the same selfish criteria that clouded his judgment back then.
I’ve read the one shot down was because he was flying too low and not following orders.
He wanted to make it to admiral but was told to get out or be court-martialed. He took the political route by first marrying a millionairess.
I wish Trump would release the dirt on the traitor. There are plenty of his fellow POWs who would gladly spill the beans on him.
Hey Buddy! You lost to the one who claimed to be born in Kenya.
How can you say this? Macinsane was an ACE having destroyed at least 4 aircraft during the war----To bad they were American planes.

That is correct, I was being generous.
Donald Trump didn’t set up those military standards. Those standards were there a long time before Trump was eligible for the draft.
I had flat feet and hammer toes, and the Army in 1961 said no way.
My vision corrected with glasses was 20/20, and the Navy, Air Force and Army said that I could not fly.
I did join the Navy Reserves in 1961 and ended up in the Navy Security Group. I apparently had some form of color blindness as per the color dots test. For some reason that prevented me from certain positions in the security group.
Again, Donald Trump didn’t set those military standards. Those standards were there a long time before Trump was eligible for the draft.
My deceased father got out of going to Nam because he had broken a shoulder blade as a teen. He couldn’t raise his arm fully over his head. He wasn’t rich he was a share cropper’s son like he himself became. This happened with all income levels
The democrat in him forgets that his party glorifies the real draft dodgers running to Canada like a cold somalian from Minnesota in winter. A medical deferment is just that, he just cannot deal with it.
What about the not-so-wealthy ones who fled to Canada?
Folks, the military draft is long gone....it means little in today’s world of USA military operations.
As for Senator, John McCain, normally I would read him the riot act...but, I sincerely believe is dying right in front of our eyes. I am somewhat informed relative failing brain functions, such as stroke impact and cancer infections...which McCain is presently suffering from.
In a word, McCain is, in a way, mentally imbalanced, seething with hate and evil....but, he is to be forgiven and prayed for, because he is disabled mentally, a result of his dying illness. The voters in Arizona and the Governor are both remiss in their duties by not removing John McCain from his position as USA Senator....end of story. The McCain saga is quite sad for all concerned.
The above link contains a timeline of Bill Clinton's draft avoidance, his letter to the ROTC Commander, and the ROTC Commander's notarized recollections in 1992 as Clinton was running for President.

What percent of the population was in the military in the 50’s through 70’s? What percentage of politicians served? What percentage of congressional staff served? What percentage of federal “workers” served? Most people didn’t serve. Is mclame blasting all of them?
McCain is an idiot. Trumps daddy was in the navy to help him if he accidentally blew up one of our aircraft carrier.
Funny how they never mention Bubba Clinton escaping the draft as they criticize Quayle, Bush, Cheney and now Trump.
