McCain the louder you shout the more I’m convinced you were behind the dossier.

The Democrats’ favorite “Republican” loves to talk in front of cameras and further ingratiate himself to the left.

Some sort of deep character flaw.

Time for John to say goodbye.

And this nut is head of the Armed Services Committee?
Something that happened almost 60 yrs ago.
He’s a tired old bitter man who needs to leave the Senate.

Poor John, using the last of his short time....

Or blowing a medical situation out of proportion so he can spew his hatred?

McCain never mentions his buddy, Willard, son of wealthy George Romney who was Gov of Michigan and the head of the draft board...

Willard is a TWO TIME draft dodger...he had no physical problems...

John, is that like someone with influence avoiding being indicted for being part of a banking fraud. Inquiring minds wish to know.

I feel like anyone who could have avoided that political war is OK in my book
As a 'Nam vet I agree - to a point. The cowards who went to Canada made a decision and should have never been allowed back into the US.

The reason we’ll never have another draft is because they won’t be able to protect the privileged again.

Like all US wars since ‘45, They were not fought to win. With respect and thanks for those who served, it was obvious that the politicians fought those wars to fight those wars and there was NO ENDGAME. Bush’s excursions into Iraq to fight his daddy’s demons was a joke as he left bin laden for Obama to get.
I was of age during Vietnam.
I personally saw no reson to serve at that time and as my career choices did not require it and I could see what LBJ then Nixon were not taking it seriously (Nixon being blocked by congress LBJ just being a democrat ).

We went down this road with Dan Quayle and George W. Bush (National Guard) and with Dick Cheney (student deferments and then dependent deferments).

Richard Nixon shifted from selective service to a lottery-style draft, and then to an all-volunteer military. Today, veteran status is a positive, but not having served on active duty is not a negative.

When I was in Army ROTC, I wondered why certain people I knew avoided service, including those who joined the National Guard or a Reserve unit. I even question a cousin of mine, who I understood got strings pulled by our Congressman to be sent to Germany instead of to Vietnam.

Then, by the time I took my commission and went to the infantry officer basic course at Fort Benning, we stopped sending people to Viet Nam, I realized that I, too, had avoided the war.

At another time, the country started mobilizing Guard and Reserve units for deployment to the Middle East, and I reconsidered. Today, anybody who wears the uniform, active, Guard or Reserve, is a hero. I have since reconsidered the looseness of the old selective service system, that allowed so many people to manipulate the system.

I blame that system, and not the fellows. Especially given how f’ed up was the Vietnam War.

I was not in the military....but I recall some controversy about McCain and John (Gengis) Kerry pushing for trade with Vietnam while abandoning the Missing in Action.

Maybe Trump could aim a few well deserved Tweets at Kerry.

He overshot the runway at Corpus Christi NAS and ended up in the muck. Anyone else would have been washed out. Sad to think a man would be allowed to endanger others’ lives because of who is Daddy and Grandpa is.

He cost lives on the Forrestal and caused pilots to be shot down after he was captured.

He as much as admitted this when he accepted the nomination and started his speech admitting he thought he was a hot shot and that the Vietnamese broke him.

And as far as I’m concerned his pappy and grandpappy are just as guilty since they covered for his worthless ass. They sure don’t deserve to have a ship named after them.

This guy is scared, and pissed he is scared.

Trump let us know he has the goods and could play dirty. McCain fears he is going down and has for a while now. That is what the anger and nastiness is over.

Whatever McCain’s positive attributes are/were they will forever be overshadowed by angry bitterness that he was not elected potus. He is an old sick bitter failure trying to be relevant.

Exactly!

McCain got an appointment to Annapolis because both his father and grandfather were admirals in the Navy. Then McCain graduated fifth from the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy.

He had a reputation of being a womanizer and a not-so-good pilot.

He disobeyed orders and flew below the ceiling, which is why he was shot down. The other men in his squadron obeyed orders and were not shot down.

Some of the other POWs made the claim that McCain gave vital information to the enemy which enabled the North Vietnamese to shoot down many additional American planes. If true, that is quite damning.

His “war hero” status is largely a myth.

Yes you are talking about Col. Bud Day. He has passed.

Yes they were cell mates when John was initially caught for about a month or so. This was until the North Vietnamese found out McCain was the son of a Admiral. Then they separated them.

For the record I totally believe Col Bud Day testimony. Col. Day is without a doubt a hero. The way he says it comes across as rock solid truth. Although they were only cell mates for a month or so, and not the entire time.

I still don’t understand what the threat was to the United States that warranted our getting involved in the Vietnam War, leading to such tremendously painful loss in lives and treasure.
