I think Obama and Flake were both too young for Vietnam and the draft. But there are a lot of examples other than Trump that McCain could have used. But then again there aren't that many people McCain hates more than Trump.
There’s a requirement for men born after December 31, 1959 to register for Selective Service. I had to register after two enlistments in the Army.
I know there are questions about Obama but did Flake not register for Selective Service?

join a reserve or guard unit. These units in those days were nothing like today’s which are deployed and fight regularity in Irag, Afganistan, etc
Are you aware that 10% of all soldiers killed in Vietnam were members of Guard or Reserve. I am amazed at veterans that look down their snoots at all who served. Disgusting really.

During Vietnam war some avoided service while others went there and committed TREASON against this country.

If one’s father owned an apple orchard or the like they were also exempt as orchards were deemed essential for food and even rations. One of my cousins got out that way. My old man was at Fort Monroe, VA as deputy for UTR (Unit Training and Readiness). He reported that the 1st Cav was not combat ready, but; they went over him. One of the Dr.’s son’s I knew as a kid was drafted and his father called my old man. Yes, in 67 that young two year draftee was in Germany. I recall one man in our entire Infantry OCS class got orders to Germany. His last name was the same as mine. I asked a neighbor of ours, a retired West Point O-6 for one favor. I wanted to do well and get away from a few guys I knew. He sent me three houses down to the Col in charge of BCT. I was sent to Ft Knox as opposed to Ft Jackson. That was the only favor I ever asked. You are correct about the facts. Where I was at those reserve units were full in 65.

When Quayle became VP the lefty military hating media began the lie that all reservists and guard are dodgers. Those who served should not repeat that.
