Playboy founder Hugh Hefner died Wednesday, aged 91. But his work of mainstreaming porn will likely live on—and continue to hurt men and women—for many years to come.
Playboy helped usher in an era of porn addiction, decreased happiness, and strained relationships between men and women.
Porn did of course exist before Hefner, and the internet—a technological innovation Hefner had nothing to do with—greatly accelerated the use of porn.
But what Hefner did was to bring porn out of the shadows, to make it something that could be discussed openly and without shame. Decades before the characters on “Friends” were cracking jokes about porn use, Hefner planted the seeds by creating Playboy magazine.

Speaking for *my* generation of guys Heffner was what most of us,at 17 year,wanted to be (including me).But then many of us grew up and came to understand what's *really* important,what's *really* respectable.
Speaking only about male Freepers I suggest to you that there's not a single one of us who is perfect...or close to it.But I also suggest that few,if any,or us are nearly as shallow as you seem to think we are.

Ive always believed in the Hobbesian man. Man in his natural state behaves purely base on self interest. Without restraint, we would all be Hugh Hefner. Though I expect the guy in the tribe that got all the hot chicks would be a bit tougher than a cupcake like Hefner.
But you're in luck, tax chick. We right wing men believe in civilization. There are those who resist it. Don't hold it against those of us that are on your side, despite some off color humor.
He did not “create” it - but he was a tool in ALTERING it in profound ways.
He has turned many people - not just men- away from the One, True, Living God.

On the subject of what I should be grateful for, I have ten children, and some of them are really big, and they have guns and knives and spears and stuff. And I can cook, including over a fire. If it all falls apart, I’m covered.

Hefner created nothing.
He capitalized on what was already there.
There comes a point in every boy’s progression towards manhood when he has to reconcilehow he seems to other men and how he treats women, the weaker sex. I’m not sure women have to walk so fine a line, but they probably do, just in a different way.

We may dream a little but I think most right wing men just want one good woman and if they happen to look more like a playboy model than triggly puff that would be nice.
