Trump is on track to win reelection
The Washington Post ^ | October 6, 2017 | Doug Sosnik

More than half of Americans don’t think Donald Trump is fit to serve as president, yet he has a clear path to winning reelection. If Trump isn’t removed from office and doesn’t lead the country into some form of global catastrophe, he could secure a second term simply by maintaining his current level of support with his political base.

We have entered a new era in American politics. The 2016 election exposed how economic, social and cultural issues have splintered the country and increasingly divided voters by age, race, education and geography. This isn’t going to change.

What have changed are the political fault lines that have driven the debate since the early 1980s. Until now, the ideological divides between the parties were largely differences around social issues, defense spending and trade, as well as tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations. Today, the central issue has become populism as voters have moved away from the two political parties and increasingly self-identified as independents....

Plus there are those who will vote for him but tell a pollster they disapprove because that is what the pollster wants to hear. Why reveal yourself and get put on a leftist hit list?

The most a MN azing thing about all these “gee, Trump doing well” pieces is that NONE of them ever include the numbers I’ve provided to Big League Politjcs ckr months showing a national collapse of the Dems in voter registration numbers SINCE NOVEMBER.

It’s the 2016 polling all over. Right now, today, Trump would win 310 electoral votes (Dding NH) and almost certainly would also win about 12-15 more with ME and MN.

Today, NM abd NV are total tossups for 10 more.

Perhaps as importantly he has mostly resisted going along with the GOPe.

A big fat DACA amnesty is the only real derailment I’m seeing that is likely for him. Otherwise he is indeed in pretty good shape.

Example: Asians have now reached 50% of the black population (i.e., their numbers exploded while no one was watching). What is their primary concern? Education of their kids. How do Asians vote? About 70% Democrat. Which party is MAKING SURE that Asian kids are prevented from going to the top schools, in order to make room for blacks and Hispanics? The Democrats. Do Republicans point this out? Nope.

Awesome post!

Yes, this is a great example for the GOP to reach beyond the base.

The libs have been successful in making the black community destroy itself, and it shows in the demographic numbers relative to Asians. And it looks the black commumity lacks the resources and werewithal to figure out, much less do anything about it. So their numbers will only worsen against the Asians.

Asians are a natural fit for the GOP with their concern for families, education, and economic opportunity.

I'm guessing the only reason Asians are voting 70% dem is because they have been duped by the media to be anti-white racists. Which is scary, because they are more disciplined than the black community. By being duped, it shows just how powerful the media-entertainment complex is.

But, I am not so sure about this guess. Asians have assimilated into America better than blacks, muslims, and hispanics have, and thus, don't they show no grudge against whites.

Nevertheless, as you say, the Asians are prime territory for conversion to the GOP.

We know the GOPe will not act on your suggestion because of their corruption/cowardness. But will Trump act on your suggestion?

Hard to say. Given his campaign history, Trump doesn't play identity politics. And given Steve Bannon's statements about identity politics, he believes it's what hurt the dems in 2016, and it will hurt them again as long as they keep it up.

However, Trump would definitely use your suggested wedge issue, namely that Asians are getting screwed in college admissions, not for the purposes of identity politics, but for pointing out the sheer injustice of the situation. That alone would open the eyes of any dem-voting Asians.

One of the great errors of the modern GOP is their ignorance of the Asian-American voter. I think too many of the Old Guard (McCain?) see an Asian face and reflexively think of America's past enemies. They just have no idea how thoroughly this group could be won over - so they would no longer fall for casting ballots for Democrats in exchange for having an occasional token named local "Chairman of the Democratic Party Asian-American Community Outreach Committee" or some other such idiocy.

Democrats have been very smart at picking up on Asian-Americans' feeling of being outcasts in their own country, and woo them through promises of fake power and lies about white racism.

So for Democrats and others who want to beat Trump, unifying behind one candidate will be essential. In addition, Trump must carry Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin in 2020 to win. Efforts should begin now to chip away at his support in these states.

Did they change something, because I thought you only needed 270 to win!? Or did they forget Trump won 306 EVs?

Trump could lose any two and still win. And we know that NH (4) and NV (6) were stolen, there's 10 more there. Plus VA (13) was suspicious. NM and CO are longer shots but the way Dems are going you never know.

Plus I love how they admit their polls are fake. LOL!

Only Trump can defeat himself ,, the media , Dems and RINOs can’t touch him because they didn’t make him . Trump represents America’s best interest right now and until that changes he will still get my vote and yours .

In my opinion, Trump has nailed down his re-election. All his 2016 supporters are sticking with him 100% and he's winning converts among never-Trumper Republicans and Independents. As well as working-class lunch-pail Democrats across Appalachia and the Midwest.

He's got pretty much the entire Left against him and hating him with a level of hate that should not be possible...this actually increases his appeal with the rest of us.

BTW, it was one year ago today that the Left shot their last wad against Donald Trump. Remember Billy Bush and the Hollywood Access video? That went down exactly one year ago today.

When Trump not only survived that weekend firestorm but trotted out all the Clinton sex victims that Sunday in a blitzkrieg press conference just before the debate, I realized that nothing was going to bring Donald Trump down and that he was going to win this thing.

The wall being underway is news to me. If you speak of a house committee approving a little funding, that’s not anywhere close to “underway”.

I think he is “repairing” portions of the wall already approved and financed.

If Hillary is President, she gives me gun control.

If Trump is president and he also gives me gun control....what's the difference?

I love what Trump has done so far. This is make or break test.

A silly assumption so early in the game. OTOH, with the current group of Democrat/Socialist candidates, it appears that this story has credence.

Wow...”what’s the difference” HUH??? So you think there is no difference between HILLARY and President Trump? Do you really and truly think they would allow the same type of gun control legislation to be enacted? Trump’s sons are avid hunters...I seriously doubt anything Trump would go along with would be anything near what Hillary would enact.

Then you go on to state you love what he has done so far...

Sorry, you are making no sense to me.

Sorry that you are a make-or-break voter on gun control. I hope he does not cave, and so far, he has said not to be discussed now...Good sign. However, if he should cave—even if slightly, I will stand with President Trump/MAGA—there is no other candidate that has or ever will come close to what Trump brings to 1600 PA Ave.

With all due respect, I hope you reconsider your stance—I don’t think you are really thinking this whole thing through.

I do agree that Trump has held so far. The only he's said is "we'll talk about it later." I say this sometimes to my wife and when I say "later" what I really mean is "never". Hopefully that's what he's saying here as well.

You are not completely wrong, there is significant difference between them. Nevertheless, gun control is a red line for me, just like abortion. The murder of children and my civil rights are not up for debate or discussion. If the best presidential candidate in a generation can't even see these through, maybe America as I remember it really is dead and is not worth fighting for anymore.

I am reacting out of anger right now. I have not made any decisions yet beyond venting on FR. I have not canceled my NRA membership, though I have sent pointed emails and voicemails to my Rep that any gun control is not acceptable. I'll see how I feel next week.

It’s somewhat of a 2-way street...but I would defer to not telling a pollster that I’m a Trump supporter...primarily because the guy at the other end of the phone line could be a DNC operative (as you allude to), rather than a real pollster. On the other hand, the president is weakened a bit of lots of people do the same.
