OSLO, Norway (AP) — The Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to an organization seeking to eliminate nuclear weapons through an international treaty-based prohibition.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee on Friday announced the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons as winner of the $1.1 million prize.

The Geneva-based organization ICAN "has been a driving force in prevailing upon the world's nations to pledge to cooperate ... in efforts to stigmatize, prohibit and eliminate nuclear weapons," committee chairwoman Berit Reiss-Andersen said in the announcement.

I have more respect for the winner of the best new”comer” award in Pornos than for this rabidly Stalinist ig-Noble Peas Prize.

One day the lion will lie down with the lamb. The United States of America must always ensure it’s the lion.

I don’t know anyone who does not want to eliminate nuclear weapons. But I do know that we all know that at this point it’s not feasible. One day, maybe, we will be in the Star Trek generation, at least I hope. But then we will have to worry about those damn Klingons!

This group is every bit as deserving as the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize winner:

I presume that every member of ICAN and the Nobel Peace Prize Committee can speak fluent Chinese.

Why, in the 72 years of Nuclear Weapons, there has been no major power conflicts like there was in the prior time frame? Israel survives because of their existence, India and its neighbors of Pakistan & China have only fought border skirmishes rather than outright invasions. The Republic of China / Taiwan, and South Korea exist because of the USofA nuclear umbrella. For that matter, Scandinavia, from the Baltic nations to Norway, owe their peace and prosperity to NATO, especially in the time immediately following WW2.

PS: If ICAN thinks that their goal is even remotely possible (ref. DPRK & Iran), I have some prime Florida real estate and a bridge in New York to sell them.

The only way it will be possible to eliminate nuclear weapons is to develop a more devastating weapon. Human nature requires that the bad guys be scared of an existential threat. When they don’t have that threat handing over their head is when wars start. History shows this over and over. We are mighty lucky that the good guys got this weapon before the bad guys.

Well, that’s a surprise. I would have expected Antifa or BLM to get the prize.

I’m surprised Kim Jong Un or the Iranians didn’t win it.

Will they also nominate the NRA for demanding at the behest of the ATF a ban on bump stocks and embrace gun control?

When Obama got his Nobel it was a signal that the Nobel no longer had any meaning. It has been reduced to the level of cereal box-top prizes... or best America’s Home Video.

Thank goodness it wasn't awarded to Pope Francis. He was rumored to be the most likely recipient.

They’ve done wonders to stopping Iran, North Korea, etc.

Oh, they mean getting the US to dismantle its nuclear arsenal.

Thanks Obama.

I think a case could be made the reason we have not had a World War since the end of WWII is because Nuclear Weapons exist.

They don’t mean that NK has to destroy its nuclear weapons. They mean the USA has to stand by and let NK build up its arsenal because NK is communist.
