People in Spain's Catalonia region defied a "Supreme Court" order today and the police could not stop them in spite of their attacks on people and polling stations.

It’s a socialist regime. Does not take long before one no longer wants to be part of that.

The woman with the blood on her face in the pic on the front page of Drudge - that doesn’t look like blood - it looks like paint. sorry to be a skeptic, but the media has staged pics way to often.

******

So what? For example, if the leftist elites in SoCal want a CalExit for their Mexifornia paradise, let them go (and a new state of Jefferson created in NorCal). It isn’t only conservatives who should have the right to secede from a government that does not represent their interests.

Not really. Franco was a totalitarian dictator who was favored by the fascist governments of Italy and Germany, but he was anti-communist. From my perspective, a dictator is a dictator, and fascist totalitarianism or communist totalitarianism are just different sides of the same evil. Because Catalonia was anti-Franco, they've been labelled as to the left, but that's a misnomer in my opinion.

There is no such thing as a “right to secede”.

You have the ability to TRY, but then you must win the ensuing conflict, because the central government is charged with protecting the territorial integrity of the nation.....obviously Spain sucks at that *cough* migrants, but that doesn’t mean they sure aren’t going to try when a chuck of metropolitan Spain tries to break away, because if they win, that will be the end of Spain as all of the other regions, especially the Basque, will be on the exit tomorrow.

A neo-Francoist Spain may result from the chaos.

The “tough love” principle requires they be allowed to experience what they’ve demanded to have.

Wasn’t Barcelona a stronghold for the socialists during their civil war?

The last person who was able to deal with the Catalonians was Franco. There aren’t any leaders like him in Spain (or for that matter, most of Europe) these days.

So you think Catalan residents should just be handed over to the hard left? The majority, most of whom did not vote because they were scared away by the masked leftists at the polls the last time around, when only 30% of registered voters voted, actually were opposed to independence in the survey done a couple of months ago.

This voting was insane, the leftist dream vote: ballots not sealed, dumped on the floor so you could see the name just in case anybody voted against independence, carried from place to place, printed on home printers, no supervision except from the “independence” party that had called the election...

I agree that the Spanish government handled this badly, but there have been years of radical leftist provocation behind this. Don’t forget things like the supermarket bombing in the 80s and other attacks by Esquerra Republicana (allied with ETA and the PLO).

Catalonia has the highest percentage of Muslims in Spain, and most of them turned out for “independence” - give Catalonia 10 years, and it will be Europe’s first officially Muslim state.

As the South at the start of the American Civil War, they’re cutting off their nose to spite their face - and to protect a few privileged commercial and political interests.

Good. They’ll stew in their own juices, and maybe the rest of Spain will get sprayed with Normal Gas.

Catalonia, like Pais Vasco, was very leftwing and was completely under control of the Soviets during the Spanish Civil War. It had been destabilized by Marxists and anarchists even in the 1920s, and there had been political assassinations and attacks that contributed heavily to bringing the crisis that led to the rebellion by the government troops, led by Franco, in opposition to the attempted Marxist takeover of Spain.

That said, if Franco had backed off on a couple of things, such as prohibiting the use of Catalan, he would have deprived the left of its talking points. However, in other ways, he was responsible for Catalonia’s post-war prosperity, because in an attempt to win them back as well as provide employment for Spaniards from the seriously depressed areas such as Andalusia, he gave them huge breaks and incentives.

No, it's a genuinely Marxist independence movement. It's in all of their propaganda, which has pictures of Muslims and other third world individuals with captions like "We are ALL Catalonians!" They hate Spain, they hate their own national identity (they are, in fact, just Spanish people), and they want to separate from Spain to establish their own Marxist government.

As for Franco. Anyone who kills Commies and keeps a nation from falling behind the Soviet Iron Curtain couldn't be THAT bad. The Communists in Spain were even digging up the skeletons of nuns and priests in their full-scale war against the population of Spain. They were murdering and raping and thieving. Franco saved Spain and protected them from the mass murder of the communist revolutionaries. He saved Spanish culture, their economy, and churches from the doom of absolute eradication.

Franco is still dead....haha.

But seriously I think the Never Trumpers like Glenn Beck want globalism, more centralized and supernational governments.

Left or Right, this puts in monkey wrench in globalism and that’s OK.

Violence is horrible but it looks like the government is the perp here.
