NFL broadcasters hint at JAW-DROPPING solution for anthem protests
Allen B. West ^ | 30 September 2017

Like an offensive coordinator attempting to find the right way to break through a defensive line, the NFL has called for a number of plays in its efforts to accommodate both their players who feel compelled to protest during the national anthem and their increasingly angry fans.

These efforts have ranged from having the players stand together with locked arms during the anthem, to keeping players in the locker room until the anthem is over, and even to having the team kneel before – rather than during – the anthem’s playing. However, none of these tactics have been completely successful, as NFL TV ratings continue to be sacked by viewers who are throwing a penalty flag at the protestors.

Now, according to the Charlotte Observer, the NFL may be ready to call a new play in advance of Sunday’s Patriots-Panthers game. And it’s a bit of a Hail Mary.

While it’s uncertain if Carolina Panthers players plan protests during the national anthem during Sunday’s game at New England, there is a chance that television viewers won’t get to see them as they happen.

In other words, if it offends too many people to either stand for the national anthem or see people NOT standing for the anthem, let’s simply not broadcast it at all.

Eric Shanks, the president of Fox Sports, told Newsday’s Neil Best earlier this week that his crews plan to return to “standard procedure” this week for NFL broadcasts. That doesn’t include showing the national anthem live for most games because the network normally airs commercials then.

Shanks left the option open, however.

“So I think we’re going to pay attention to events,” Shanks told Newsday. “… A lot of time is happening between now and then.”

They should earn the right. When they score a TD, instead of their goofy dance - they can take a knee.

Will that negate the TD? Kewl!

I want my anthem.

One thing I like about the Yankees is that when they play “God Bless America” at the seventh inning stretch, YES actually shows it.

Since some of the “viewership” is only tuning in to see if any un-American thugs don’t stand respectfully for the anthem, that might decrease viewership even more.

It’s going to be a long time before I ever watch another NFL game again.

Since there is mention of the flag and anthem in the NFL operations manual, how about any team the plays their little childish game during the anthem forfeits the game?

They usually don’t show the anthem. Some prime time games and the Super Bowl but usually, especially before DOD started paying them, that happened while TV audience were getting the announcer gabber. Going back to the old ways is a fine solution.

I have been watching baseball on TV all year.
The broadcasts always start after the anthem is sung.

NFL and everyone associated with them. Either, admit you were wrong and show the National Anthem with everyone showing respect, or kiss your sport goodbye. You have two choices: To honor the anthem, play and get paid, or dishonor the anthem, end up not to playing, and go to work in some low wage job. There is no in between.

You will NOT be able to force people to accept your point of view that your players want to be able to do whatever they want off the field and not be held accountable under the law. That is NOT going to happen.

We who have left don’t care what they do or don’t do. You don’t cheer for people who hate you. The masks are off and it’s over. The league will keep going with less people; that’s all.

Not sure it is much of a solution as the media and players will keep pushing it.

This would make it worse because the viewers would think no one was standing. The networks can’t make the public un-see what it has already seen.

But they are forgetting those who are at the stadium who now have cell phones and ready access to Trump’s favorite media clipping tool. Saying these goofs live in a bubble is being gracious.

Don’t these idiots realize we are in the era of phones with cameras??? If they plan protests, it will get out and no amount of trying to hide it with the TV cameras will work.

These people running the NFL are so dense, as well as these players. Just enforce your rules of conduct during the national anthem. It sucks this culture is so sick you have to explain why we have respect for our national anthem and flag.

“They usually don’t show the anthem.”

That may be true, BUT they probably started showing the anthem because the people wanted to see it. Maybe because a famous performer was doing it; maybe because there’d be a cool military flyby or some other tribute; maybe because some viewers are just patriotic like that, or even Veterans themselves.

Nonetheless, when they consider their solution, they’d do well to remember why they started showing the anthem in the first place if it was, in fact, unusual.

No problem. There will be so many You Tube videos online within minutes of the opening National Anthem the Networks will be deemed irrelevant.

Nope, haven’t learned anything at all, and you are right. It will only enrage people even more. I am done with them. It’s time to reacquaint myself with family. 😀😆😄 I am still wondering if this will spread to college football?
