Melania Trump fires back at librarian who rejected gift of Dr. Seuss books as ‘racist’

First lady Melania Trump fired back Friday at a Massachusetts elementary school librarian who rejected her donation of Dr. Seuss books, claiming their illustrations are examples of “racist propaganda.”

Stephanie Grisham, director of communications for the first lady's office, said in a statement to Fox News that the response was "unfortunate," and Mrs. Trump wanted to use her platform "to help as many children as she can."

"She has demonstrated this in both actions and words since her husband took office, and sending books to children across the country is but one example," she said. "To turn the gesture of sending young students some books into something divisive is unfortunate, but the First Lady remains committed to her efforts on behalf of children everywhere."

To celebrate “National Read a Book Day,” the first lady had sent out a collection of 10 Dr. Seuss books to one school in each state across the nation. The titles included: "The Cat in the Hat"; "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish"; "Wacky Wednesday"; "Green Eggs and Ham"; and "Oh, the Places You’ll Go!"

Like the NFL, we will hear every excuse in the book (the usual: `Not my dog; my dog doesn’t bit; he didn’t bite you’ and on-and-on, never admitting anything) until it finally becomes clear (`Russia, Russia, Russia!’) that the real reason is Trump Derangement Syndrome.

This is so off base. Think of all the children who would forever love reading if they were given a book from the First Lady to add to their home libraries. If they weren't something this maniacal librarian would put on her shelves, why not gift them to those students who don't have the resources at home?

I can't help but wonder if this librarian who thinks Dr. Seuss is inappropriate is so offended by stuff of the "Susie wants to be a boy" ilk. For heaven's sake, Dr. Seuss stimulates the imaginations and promotes creative silliness. What could be more important for well-grounded intellectual growth, at all ages?

Newman: But you never became a librarian, did you Mister Kramer? Why? Why did you fail?

Kramer: I don't know.

Newman: It was because you hated your father and you would do anything to displease him. Isn't THAT true?

Judge: Uh, could you get to the speeding?

Newman: Yuh, yes. I intend to Your Honor. And then, on the afternoon of September 10th, you received a phone call did you not?

Kramer (puzzled): Phone call?

Newman: Yes, a phone call!

Kramer: From who?

Newman: From me!

Kramer: From you?

Newman: Yes, from me!! I called you remember?

Kramer: You called me?

Newman: Yes, I called you, you idiot! Because you were going to... You were going to... Remember?

Sadly, the degree requirements to be a librarian are so insane she doesn’t feel she can justify the years required, nor the cost.

Before he got his current job with an investment company, my oldest son worked full time in a grocery-store deli. He got the job when the previous full-time deli-guy, who had master's degrees in literature and library science, FINALLY got a "real job" in a library.

When my 19-year-old daughter said, "I could get a degree in Anthropology," I said, "Lovely. You'll be the most interesting deli clerk since your brother."

If there was any political angle in a Seuss book, it was so low key and discreet as to be easily ignored. I’m convinced Seuss didn’t like socialism, though. Even the NYT (albeit from decades ago) called the animals who took up residence in Thidwick’s antlers, ‘spongers,’ (who got what they deserved).

Then there’s my all time favorite, I had Trouble in Getting to Solla Sollew. On the one hand you’ve got the side that promises unicorns and skittles but fails to deliver. Otoh is an individual who gives up on overreaching promises and who decides to deal with his problems with his own big stick. No way is that liberal.
