Steelers Coach Didn’t Want Army Vet To Stand For Anthem [VIDEO]

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin indicated Sunday night that he did not want offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva to stand for the national anthem, instead of sitting it out with the rest of his teammates.

Villanueva, a former Army Ranger who served three tours in Afghanistan, was the only Steelers player to stand for the anthem. While Villanueva stood in the tunnel, hand over his heart, the rest of the team remained in the locker room in protest of President Trump’s comments that players who kneel during the national anthem should be fired. WATCH:

Tomlin said in a post-game press conference that he was looking for “100 percent participation” in whatever course of action the team took during the national anthem.

When asked by a reporter about Villanueva coming out for the anthem, Tomlin said, “Like I said, I was looking for 100 percent participation, we were gonna be respectful of our football team.”

Villaneuva played in college at West Point Military Academy before going on to become an Army Ranger. He served three tours in Afghanistan and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Valor. He signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2014, before later joining the Steelers.

“God bless Alejandro Villanueva”

Yes. He’s the only person connected to that franchise that isn’t garbage.

committing suicide is stupid, Tomlin and his ilk are doing exactly that.

It might take a while, but their demise is coming all the same.

Nah. My guess is only a few of the Steelers actually wanted to take a knee, but the powers that be thought it might be best for the whole team to stay in the locker room to avoid the entire situation.

The Mizzou nonsense was just about the last game of the year. They thought that would blow over, but they are paying a big price 2 years later.

Bill Clinton didn't destroy a large part of our culture. The link below is from an NHL game just a couple of years ago ... where the fans finished singing the U.S. national anthem after the microphone cut out.

This took place in TORONTO

This is what makes hockey fans the BEST of any sport.

I know if the other 99% POS Steelers spent just one day on combat patrol in Afghanistan,Iraq,Somalia, Vietnam (Rocky Bleier),Korea,Germany,Pacific etc they would understand why we stand and honor country and flag irregardless of differences within the country. I never once considered acting like this when Obama was president and he was my Commander in Chief when my unit deployed. It used to be everyone drafted had to do time in the military even if they played pro sports. These guys have no idea how good they have it because of the country and flag they sh*t upon. Stand the f-up pu**ies!

It depends upon if Villanueva was allowed to speak to the team

I imagine if he could speak . . . he might say something along the lines that he and his brothers fought for the right of the players to conduct themselves in this manner. If thats what they choose to do with that freedom, so be it.

He would continue that he has to stand up and respect those who died for those to have that freedom to disrespect their country, their flag and and those who died for that freedom. We as viewers have the right to disavow the players actions, and the franchise that promote disrespecting our flag.

If he did not speak . . . I doubt next week will be any different

The US SC has ruled twice that they are not a monopoly.

The USSC also declared that a fee is really a tax… because they say so! Really! — No, don't read the first sentence of Article 1, that's unimportant… all you need to do is listen to the USSC!
(All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.)

(NOTE: The above should be read with heavy sarcasm.)
