NFL head: Trump's 'divisive comments' show a 'lack of respect'

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell fired back at President Trump on Saturday for encouraging league owners to remove players who take a knee during the national anthem, saying Trump’s “divisive comments” show “an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL.”

“The NFL and our players are at our best when we help create a sense of unity in our country and our culture,” Goodell said in a statement. “There is no better example than the amazing response from our clubs and players to the terrible natural disasters we've experienced over the last month.”

“Divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our great game and all of our players, and a failure to understand the overwhelming force for good our clubs and players represent in our communities.”

Incredibly, this egomaniac is in the process of negotiating his contract extension and is wanting a raise!!! He should be out on his butt, and we can only hope Jerry Jones, the owner of the richest franchise, will see to that. Goodell certainly does not win any points by making ridiculous statements about Pres. Trump not respecting the NFL, when his reprobate players don’t respect the flag of this country!!!

lack of respect for the NFL

Respect is and always will be earned, the NFL has not shown any respect to the USA, so the hell with them. Just a bunch of over paid players, that can not even play a good game!!!

They disrespect the flag and Trump is criticized for pointing it out. Telling the truth is now a revolutionary act.

So true. This stuff reminds me of the 60”s and the uniformed protestors I grew up with

“The most divisive person in NFL football is the Goodell guy who thinks his players disrespecting patriotic Americans is a great idea.”

Yeh, Goodell still doesn’t “get it”. But even he, dullard that he is, will ultimately get it. May take awhile though....

When, the NFL/ESPN/Disney and their SJW’s show respect to Americans, our flag and our country 24/7, President Trump and his 62+ million voters will show them respect.

Until then, just go to economic hell!

Each day, the NFL/ESPN/Disney become more irrelevant to us!

Hey Rodger, I think given a one on one The Donald would win a contest with you as a replacement head of the NFL, where you stand NO chance of ever rising to lead our country especially with your Politically Correct stances....

It may be satire but it’s certainly projection.

After what Goodell pulled by not letting the Dallas Cowboys honor the fallen Dallas police officers, I lost all respect for the NFL myself. Based on falling TV ratings and attendance, lots of other folks feel the way I do.

Goodell should keep his job and keep talking. The NFL deserves what they are likely to get. And it’s not respect.

...lack of respect for the NFL.

Roger, Roger... That is exactly what the nation and our President is citing. The NFL has become a sad example of disfunction and is not worthy of appreciation, let alone respect. Its a big money making game owned by multi-millionares and run paying millions to young men who increasingly are vile examples of what is wrong with our urban culture.

You picked the wrong side Roger. You sir are an effing useful idiot. The left that you just sided with are out to end your league and the sport in its entirety. Now reap what you sow. Since you have now de facto have endorsed flag protests, YOU OWN THEM!!!

Fans will soon be done with the NFL. The NFL will soon be done. Let’s hope that whatever is born it’s place will be a better product.

The NFL has a Serious and Increasing problem on it’s head. This NFL head needs to get a grip and be careful of what it says because the fans are watching this situation and are deciding whether to buy season tickets or corporate meetings there or NOT!

Trump is the President of the United States of America. The flag is the symbol of the country he represents. The flag appears whenever he is on stage and he wears one in his lapel. His objective is to Make America Great Again. Why wouldn’t he defend the flag and all that it stands for? He would be derelict if he didn’t.

"Divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL ..."

There's nothing "unfortunate" about a lack of respect for a major corporate cartel whose sole business is entertainment.

"There is no better example than the amazing response from our clubs and players to the terrible natural disasters we've experienced over the last month."

Goodell makes my point by citing one example that has absolutely nothing to do with the NFL and its "product."

Respect is something to be earned, not something for anyone (or anything, in this case) to feel entitled to.

FU RG,you spineless coward and puppet!

His statement exemplifies why the No_Fun_League is dying a slow death. If he want's wants the BS league to be a bunch of American hating social warriors, then stop with the anthem, the eye wash circus of flags and fake sentiment honoring of American Veterans and our country. The NFL can't have it both ways. The owners also need to stop playing fans like fools. This is all on top of the fact that the game is becoming unwatchable in the first place with over saturation of commercialism, putrid refereeing and rules that are destroying the integrity of the game of football.

Goodell needs to be fired by the owners if they still want a profitable NFL. If they won’t, then they are part of the problem and should be shunned by all patriotic fans.

I know many otherwise good conservatives who continue to watch NFL, allowing these players to get paid.

I just don’t understand it. Total and complete boycott is the right answer.

Then the owners will take care of it. With the support of the media.

Lawyers will eventually kill off the NFL and not a minute too soon why funnel money to people who hate America.

Demography and the Left will kill off football. There are currently 42.5 million foreign born in this country, not counting their children. Soccer (football) is the world's game. As the percentage of foreign born continues to increase as projected, football will decline in popularity.
