One in five Californians lives in poverty, the highest rate in the country, according to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The “Supplemental Poverty Measure,” factors in cost of living and shows a stubbornly high share of Golden State residents in poverty even as the national rate has dropped slightly.

Under the methodology, an estimated 20.4 percent of Californians lived below the poverty line in a three-year average of 2014, 2015 and 2016. That is virtually unchanged from the 20.6 percent average for 2013, 2014 and 2015, according to Tuesday’s release.

California is where the mega corporations got their way. An elite few end up super wealthy and the rest are going to be poor looking for a welfare check or scraps.

No mention of the real cause - importing poverty-stricken, low-skilled illegal aliens.

Notice the slant of the article is that this is surprising.

The only surprise is that 90% of Californians aren’t living below the poverty level.

Give the Democrats another fifty years and they will make it happen!

No surprise. This is what results from a one-party, communist government.

Step 1. Raise taxes.

Step 2. Drive out more producers/taxpayers

Step 3. Invite more illegals and homeless

Step 4. Complain about poverty rate

Step 5. Repeat steps 1-4

Liberal Elites in Hollywood MUST have a large pool of ‘servants’ to sift between... the leftovers can be supported by middle class citizens... ‘let them eat cake’ and all...

That and taxes. Our gas just went up again because of a 12 cent (?) per gallon tax they voted in.

1. Generous benefits, (EBT, food stamps, free apartment, free phone, free healthcare) are NOT counted. The person who gets all those, which add up to $50,000 or more a year, is still counted as POOR.

2. Freeloaders go where the benefits are good, raising the numbers.

3. Normal people get the hell out, raising the percentage of “poor” people.

That and taxes. Our gas just went up again because of a 12 cent (?) per gallon tax they voted in. And it's going up another 69 cents/gallon with the cap & trade BS. We need to repeal the gas tax. They are supposedly getting a proposition together to repeal it.
