Trump to Congress: Legalize DACA! (or I Will Revisit)
Breitbart.com ^ | 5 Sep 2017 | Adam Shaw

President Trump called on Congress to “legalize” DACA late Tuesday, just hours after his administration announced the repeal of the amnesty for children brought to the country illegally — promising that he will “revisit this issue” if Congress does not turn DACA into legislation.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the repeal of the Obama era executive order — known as the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program — both on constitutional grounds and also on principle.

“The effect of this unilateral executive amnesty, among other things, contributed to a surge of unaccompanied minors on the southern border that yielded terrible humanitarian consequences,” Sessions said. “It also denied jobs to hundreds of thousands of Americans by allowing those same jobs to go to illegal aliens.”

The move saw significant opposition from Democrats and voices in the media, while even some Republicans who formerly opposed DACA called for Congress to act to resolve the issue with legislation.

The rollback includes a six-month delay so as to allow Congress to act if it so chose. The White House had expressed hope that the issue could be included as part of a broader immigration legislation package, with Trump tweeting that he hoped to work with Democrats and Republicans for a reform “that puts hardworking citizens of our country 1st.”

But by late Tuesday, Trump appeared to have turned into a paper tiger on the key campaign promise to get rid of DACA, saying he would “revisit this issue” if Congress did not “legalize DACA.”

Sure, that’s fine. BUT THEN..oh btw, I will revisit it. He can’t revisit on his own when he just said it was unconstitutional.

All he had to do was end it. Let Congress do their job or not.

The revisit part is the stupid part of this.

Hope he’s not wobbling on this issue.

Big time. He loves the Dreamers. He has a big heart.

Who the hell knows at this point?

It would be nice if President Trump occasionally actually took a position that did not involve the words “Great” or “Fantastic.”

Does anyone know what he wants right now regarding the Dreamers aside from border wall funding?

That’s all this seems to be is a game of chicken - one that the Dems will be happy to lose. Nothing would make Pelosi and Schumer and Pelosi happier than videos of armed agents arresting college or high school students in order to deport them to their “home” countries next summer - a few months before the midterms.

A majority of Republicans actually support legalization of this specific class (that Obama essentially created out of whole cloth). For some reason, this is the hill President Trump has chosen to die on.

I know. I know. 4-D chess. 4-D chess.

It will be amazing when the one major piece of legislation Trump has signed in his first year is a large-scale amnesty.

Okay..so what exactly is he going to do when he revisits it.

*************

That would be at best speculation on anyone’s part at this time. But what the President
has done is put Congress, others on notice that he will take action if they don’t act.

Congress now has 6 months to legalize DACA (something the Obama Administration was unable to do). If they can't, I will revisit this issue!

Here is an example of what his revisit words just did after Sessions said it was unconstitutional

Matthew Chapman‏Verified account @fawfulfan Matthew Chapman Retweeted If Trump admits he has the power to "revisit" #DACA, he's admitting his entire premise that the courts said Congress must do it is a lie.

He’s making sure the world knows who’s who in the GOP by 2018. Trump has said it’s unconstitutional. Sessions has said the same. So now, what is the gop to do? Make up some unconstitutional legislation that screws the American people and LEGAL immigrants? It would be one of the last things they do for most of them. He just put congress in the spot light yet again to show us how useless they are.

I agree with your opinion. It also sounded to me like putting Congress on notice that they will own the issue if they do not act on changes to our current immigration laws and the lack of compliance (fed/state/local) and consistent enforcement.

They want this passed and signed now so that’s it is far in the rear-view mirror come the midterms.

If there is a political calculation here it’s that passing an amnesty that President Trump signs gives every member cover during their primaries. How bad can this be if Immigration Hawk Trump signed it?

We are looking at these 2017 accomplishments for Congress:

1. Raising the Debt Ceiling
2. Amnesty

At the end of six months, if they don’t do something, he can completely stop it since it was illegal to start with. He has a bargaining chip for six months to get funding for the wall, immigration reform, anchor baby law, etc. Regardless, if they don’t become legal and they commit a crime, they can still be deported. Personally, I would like to see all of them that are now adults deported anyway. Parents too. They should never be allowed to stay ahead of those trying to come here legally. Trump hasn’t let me down yet so I’m trusting him on this.
