Well, I’m a ‘SouthWesterner’

Long drives are no big deal to a lot of us. Some folks commute 100 miles a day round trip between work and home. And where I live now, the nearest grocery store is a 40 mile round trip.

I studied a bit of geology and mineralogy — Have a degree in Mining Engineering, and traveled the world for 20 years looking for interesting deposits.

Whattaburgers are pretty good, though nothing is better than the original Tommy Burgers, though they did everything possible to ruin it piece by piece after tommy died. And THERE IS and ever has been only one location. Wenever I get coerced to go to socal, I always stop.

Too bad. Hope eventually you have both time and resources to roam.

When I travel out of state and see Whataburger I know I am home.

Boo Five Guys! Obama loves them so I hate them. Besides, their burgers and their fries can't hold a candle to even one Whataburger Junior.

People from different areas definitely have different ideas of what qualifies as good.

Im a well travelled transplant here. There is a local place that everyone around here claims is the best. Possibly the worste burgers Ive ever had. "Hard roll" is just a stale bun and it holds a tiny, burnt nugget that they attempt to revive with a stick of butter and really low grade condiments.

Burgers arent the only thing like that though. The same place, often compared with an equally bad rival, has "the best chili in the world". The recipe as far as I can tell is 1/4 ketchup, 1/4 hot sauce, 1/4 beef tallow, and 1/4 sand. Its served on a big bed of spaghetti. It must be the spaghetti that tricks the locals into believing it meets the definition of food.

If you’re gonna roadtrip for food, Lambert’s is the place to go.

I had my 1st Whataburger in 1977 while stationed at Ft Bliss. It became my fast food burger of choice, still is. Wish they would open on here in Thailand.

Luckily thru out the years I had a lot of TDY to Whatabuger areas such as Ft Sill, Ft Hood, and Eglin AFB. Then about 15 years ago (or more) they opened one in Northern Birmingham, drove right by a lot, and stopped also.

But if you want the best burger, go to Meers near Ft Sill: http://www.meersstore.com/

Image result for meers burger

Yeah, the original Tommy’s!

Great, but not worth staying in California for!

Whataburger came to my area and went away in less than a year. I and I am guessing others were unimpressed.

‘But they don’t come close to Five Guys.’

Five Guys fries are THE BEST, but the burgers are too much for the buns. I usually get a hot dog if I eat there.

My fave burger place now is Bobby’s Burger Palace. Excellent, totally consistent, and even impressed my very, very picky friend. Get the onion rings though, the fries are really no big deal.

The Maverrick Grill, I-20@ US 281 in Palo Pinto County, Texas. Best hamburger.
Whataburger will not cool me a fresh burger like they say they will in their commercials
