Kentucky shows why Democrats need a new message to attract moderate voters

In truth, she didn’t — her party did. The Democratic Party has suffered broadly in the middle of the country in the last few years, largely on the backs of its pull left under the presidency of Barack Obama. Though progressivism fit well for Democrats in urban areas, it fell flat and was widely rejected in places like Madison County.

It is not that voters liked or loved Republicans or found them more virtuous; it is that they found Democrats less aligned with their values, more likely to look down their noses at them, and not at all interested in listening to their plight.

Republicans at least made it OK to be in a church pew every Sunday, own a gun for protection and hunting, and not share all their money with everyone else.

Kentucky Republicans were handed a bucket of ice water last fall when they won the state House in a landslide that fit in nicely with their previous wins in the governor’s office and the majority in the state Senate.

The last time Republicans held the majority in the Kentucky state House was in 1921. Before the Democrats lost it in the fall, it was the last lawmaking chamber in the South still controlled by a Democratic majority.

Smart’s loss to Republican C. Wesley Morgan last year was not about her not representing her state and her district well; it was about the image the national party projects, and voters in the middle of the country have been rejecting that for nearly a decade.

The Democrats currently lack the ability to win back power because their concentration of power is in 94 counties across the country, according to an analysis by Dave Wasserman, U.S. House editor of the Cook Political Report.

The Democrats and fake news media should keep on doing what they’re doing.

Losing!

You mean making Atifa and BLM into hero nazi fighters, and tearing down American monuments is not a winning strategy for the rust belt white middle class and blue collar workers?

SHOCKING!

Instead of discussing “new approaches” let’s start with democrats are leftists which means they are evil fools who would destroy this country, therefore they have nothing good to offer the lady from Kentucky.

Kentucky was 2nd to only Oklahoma in its support for President Trump.

Clinton won only 2 counties: Jefferson (Louisville) and Fayette (Lexington/University of Kentucky).

Although Matt Bevin was unable to successfully primary out Mitch McConnell, he’s doing a super job as Governor. And Rand Paul is one of the few legitimate conservatives in the Senate although he at times throws some rather wacky libertarian stuff out there.

Our one real problem area right now is health care. We have a lot of people who were thrown onto Medicaid when premium prices soared under Obamacare and it would now be very difficult for Kentucky if the states lose medicaid funding.

Yup. Its identity politics. They hate America, whites, Jews and any one who’s not conservative/moderate.

I want the Democrats to run on it in 2018 and tell us how much they hate Trump.

We got a winnah!

“...It is not that voters liked or loved Republicans or found them more virtuous; ...”

it is that they found Democrats...Completely and absolutely repugnant

There. Finished it.

Communism should have criminal penalties. Half of our politicians would be in jail. I am happy with that. I can’t post what I think, but they killed about 100-150 million of their own citizens that were productive vs. dependent. I just want equilibrium.

Until Trump there was not much reason to vote for the GOP Presidential candidates, they were all Cheap Labor Express stooges.
Trump has loyal support from people because they see him trying to reverse the planned importation of “new” Americans.
Neither party really likes the old ones.

It doesn’t sound as though the Democrats of today have any use for moderates, except as fundraising tools that help to meet their quarterly goals.

After millions of dead American troops lost defending freedom & $20 Trillion in ‘Great Society’ spending, all actual and imagined historical injustices have by now received more-than-adequate compensation. That’s enough. We aren’t going to be bullied by these people further. Can’t they just shut up? All this time spent tearing down statues could have earned them a respectable associate’s degree in nuclear medicine tech or AutoCAD by now. I’m really growing tired of it....

The Democrat loss of the House was stunning. It wasn’t long ago that they held a huge majority. Bevin is doing a great job standing up to the Levo-Fascii.

I am glad to hear that Bevin will be strong for reelection 201, and I don’t see McC trying to primary Bevin.

Trey Parker from South Park once said: “We hate Republicans but we F####NG hate Democrats”.
Seems to be the sentiment in many areas of the country.
