More highly paid Americans also provides “an infusion of demand”.
Too many lazy Americans. Can’t read their diplomas. The immigrants are filling a vacuum. It would be nice to get some structure on those we let in. It starts with the fence. The lazy phucks? You tell me what to do.
How many in this country sitting around on welfare? Why would we import low skilled people to fill those jobs and continue to pay welfare support to people who should be doing that work? If we need to import skilled workers, a better solution would be to teach American students those skills instead of femenist and transgender studies.
> would decrease GDP by 2 percent over the long term and cost 4.6 million jobs, a new study finds <
How does this work? Do they use a random number generator to get those numbers? Or do they just put a whole bunch of numbers in a hat, then draw a few?
Ridiculous.
I’d just like to see $ numbers - welfare saved, in-state tuition saved, housing allowances saved, food stamp money saved. That’s what would convince me. I suspect they did not calculate that into these figures.
WE.DON’T.NEED.ANYMORE.IMMIGRANTS.
....because GDP was so strong with Obama’s open border policy.
Which of the nations on the top of the list have an immigration rate approaching that of the US? Iraq? Nepal? Iceland?
Id just like to see $ numbers - welfare saved, in-state tuition saved, housing allowances saved, food stamp money saved.
Stopping immigration and rising wages would do wonders. But The Chamber of Crony Commerce won’t allow that (prosperity is what this was called in better time).
If immigration boosts economic growth we should all play musical countries so that everyone could be a billionaire.
Narrative of lies.
What we want to increase is GDP per capita, not GDP.
If we bring in millions of nonskilled/lowskilled third world labor, GDP may increase but GDP per capita goes down.
That is because they contribute less economically than in resources they use.
For example, take a single mother from El Salvador with three children who works as a low-paid housekeeper for a globalist GOPe politican in Washington, D.C.
The average cost per student for a year in DC public schools is about $20,000. That takes $60,000 in taxes just to support the education costs. She won’t pay taxes, she will get EITC and child tax credits, so that costs money as well. And the costs of accessing local emergency rooms and clinics for free health care. And if one of her children becomes an MS-13 gang member, the costs to victims of his crimes and if caught the costs of administering the courts and jails and prisons. And she may well access various welfare programs.
The US is a welfare state. We actually hurt our GDP per capita when we bring in unskilled foreign labor.
.
Wish I could make up numbers and have 47% of the population believe it.
Project much?
The solution is a reduction of welfare for healthy Americans who refuse to work, not importing more immigrant welfare sponges and thereby enriching corporations on the back of the American taxpayer who subsidizes their foreign slave labor. .
Wait a minute. If they can read at all, they can only read Arabic. And they generally don't have high schools over there.
Never mind. "I'll take Americans for 600, Alex."
One sided articles fighting a battle they already lost. How does it stand to reason that an available job filled by an immigrant would produce greater economic activity than one filled by an American?
Certainly if a company took time to train an American there is some loss during that period but on the other side of the coin we have one less American getting government help to get by. The drag of that unemployed American is never fully recognized nor compensated for in these economic arguments.
Why low skill? All skill levels can be filled right here if companies had the patience to train people.
