Charlottesville is why I’m glad I don’t support Trump (#NeverTrump Alert)
NY Post ^ | August 14, 2017 | John Podhoretz

Posted on 08/13/2017 10:46:32 PM PDT by Oshkalaboomboom

For the past seven months, fellow conservatives have pointed to Donald Trump’s appointment of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court and the deregulatory efforts of the Trump White House, among other things, and then demanded to know why my view of this presidency has remained negative.

Charlottesville is why.

There are policies the administration has pursued with which I disagree. And there have been incompetencies in the pursuit of policies like the repeal of ObamaCare I’ve found disheartening.

But these are disagreements and failings I could live with, I think, when I consider what the policy alternatives might have been under Hillary Clinton.

I couldn’t live with myself if I supported a president who can’t bring himself to denounce Nazis and white supremacists unqualifiedly and by name.

I’ve also been basically ordered to support the president by conservative intellectuals for the good of America, just as Daenerys Targaryen keeps telling Jon Snow on “Game of Thrones” to bend the knee to save Westeros.

“This is a civil war,” the former media mogul Conrad Black wrote this week about the liberals who are seeking to destroy Trump, and Black insists that “the choice, for sane conservatives, is Trump or national disaster.”

Really? And what if the choice is between national disaster and . . . national disaster?

Like everybody else, our president watched video of a white supremacist deliberately drive a car into a crowd of liberal protesters, and then back up the car and drive back over them again. And our president responded by condemning violence “on many sides” and offering his “best regards” to the casualties.

This was not a mistake on Trump’s part. This was a deliberate communications choice.

Someone should redo the famous New Yorker cover with the view of the US from NYC:

except in the case of the Never Trumpers beyond the Hudson River is nothing but neo-Nazi skinheads and marching Klansmen, until you get to Los Angeles.

I think there is nothing more complicated to the Never Trump position than simply hatred of white flyover Americans.

Looks like Podhoretz is hearing only what he wants to hear to further justify his Never Trump position: Trump condemns 'white supremacists,' other extremists behind deadly Virginia rallies

The original protesters in attendance were there to protest the PC removal of the R.E. Lee statue by the city. A justifiable protest, imo. And of course completely legal, permits and all. Were there a few loons among that crowd? Undoubtedly. But from the many eyewitness accounts by Freepers, they were in the distinct minority. Podhoretz and his ilk would have us believe that they were the rule, not the exception.

Somehow I missed his criticism of the Antifa thug with the criminal record who punched a woman merely because she was filming his side's unruly (at best) behavior.

The Left is boiling over from not losing power. It has never understood about individual rights or free expression. I don’t know much about this Unite the Right rally and I don’t know whether it is racist or not. What I do see is a full court press against conservatives and Trump. Trump never endorsed this rally or organization yet he is being blamed.

The Left never looks in the mirror and asks how it contributes to racism and oppression. Do Leftists ever think that if people feel oppressed that they might get vocal about it or that those on the fringe might do something stupid in a fit of rage that it caused?

In the end, this is one death caused by a lone wolf. The Left has killed tens of millions.

Jon IS NOT his father and never will be even close.

He’s like Benedict Arnold only without the battlefield “creds” and the uniform.

Everybody dislikes neo-nazis and white supremacists, and there certainly were some at the rally. However its not clear that everybody who showed up in favor of the rally was a neo-nazi or white supremacist. The counter protesters may not have all been Antifa either. But Antifa showed up as well. So as Trump said there was hate all around and we should come together. What Trump did NOT do is paint either side with a broad brush since it seems both sides had bigoted extremists mixed with more reasonable people.

“I couldn’t live with myself if I supported a president who can’t bring himself to denounce Nazis and white supremacists unqualifiedly and by name.”

In other words, the left points to an easy target and commands, “HATE!!!!” and expects people to obey that command. And Trump refused to follow through.

The way I look at that if someone pointed to an organization or person, such as hate groups, and demanded that I denounce it, I’m going to tell them to take a hike. I’ll decide if and when I’ll denounce something, if at all, and not at the command of others. Im not someone elses verbal puppet.

Ordering me what to say is almost as bad as ordering me what not to say.

I am sure the Black Lives Matters people are noble little angels. John Podhoretz, with those funny glasses, has a blind eye to what’s happening in this country by the Left. Perhaps is the same vision thing that makes me read his name “Putz.” Mr. Podhoretz wouldn’t want me doing that any more than him failing to see Black Lives Matters as a Communist subversives wanting to push America into anarchy.

The best thing about trump is he has exposed the treacherous dogs that claimed to be on our side. Long after Trump I will remember the names of these cowards and will oppose anyone they put forth.

Since 100% of the Senators voted for Lisa Murkowski’s little treason, blocking DJT’s ability to make recess appointments, they all deserve NO votes from any Trump supporter.

Like everybody else, our president watched video of a white supremacist deliberately drive a car into a crowd of liberal protesters, and then back up the car and drive back over them again.

That is yet to be determined as to what ACTUALLY happened there. That the MSM is running with a narrative in no way means it is the truth.

And our president responded by condemning violence “on many sides” and offering his “best regards” to the casualties.

And what is your point? He shouldn't condemn violence from the left? How about if the left started the violence? You're a putz.

Potholeretz is another one of these neoCON scumbags who came over from the Democrat Party to screw over the GOP. I cannot stand this man. It’s people like him who are in the forefront of ruining this country by selling us out to globalist interests.

Dear John,

One of the "anti racist counter protester" groups that came ready to rumble in Charlottesville is Black Lives Matter, a black supremacist group that was responsible for the murders of 5 police officers in Dallas and 3 in Baton Rouge.

They routinely call for the assassination of police officers and violence against Whites.

The other "anti racist" group that showed up to ilLegally and violently shut down a lawful, peaceful event was antifa.

A communist/anarchist terrorist group that is responsible for injuries to hundreds of police and hundreds of Trump supporters and innocent citizens.

It is also responsible for hundreds of millions of dollars in property damage.

Did you try to pin the Capitol Ball Field shooting of Sen Scalise and 4 others on Bernie Sanders?

It was one of his supporters that did it and dem politicians routinely make thinly veiled allusions to violence, including the former president barry soetoro.

Funny how you and the msm won't judge BLM by the murders of 8 police officers nor antifa for the destruction and violence that they perpetrate nor dems for the violence that they incite but you will tar President Trump and all Conservatives with the single, alleged act of one person.

It's apparently racist to judge all muslims on the barbaric terrorist acts of a few...hundred thousand but this is okay.

On the Podhoretz:

Reagan, who was president from 1981 to 1989, did better with Jews than any other Republican candidate since Dwight Eisenhower, taking in 39 percent of the Jewish vote in 1980. Trump, however, could do as poorly with Jews as Barry Goldwater, who, in 1964, received just 10 percent of Jewish support, Podhoretz posited.

And while he plans to be in that minority, many of his ideological bedfellows continue to publicly decry Trump, as well as privately convince Podhoretz to change his mind, including another prominent neoconservative pundit: his son, John Podhoretz, the current editor of Commentary.

Earlier this summer, the younger Podhoretz argued that any maneuvers to strip Trump of the nomination at the Republican convention “might not only be a wise thing to do,” but more so would be “the moral thing to do.” Such efforts that were put forth by delegates in Cleveland were unsuccessful — and so, too, have been his attempts to convince his father to reject Trump, according to the elder Podhoretz.

This isn't surprising, considering the source. He's been anti-Trump for a long time. I used to read the NY Post daily (online) until their website became so jammed up with ads. Every article is unreadable, unless the reader doesn't mind ads popping up in the middle of the article, playing, then the page resetting (jumping up and down) after the ad has played. And when that site is loaded into a browser (I have 16Gb of memory on my laptop) the cooling fan starts whirring full-speed because they load so much CRAP into the browser of each website visitor.

There used to be a "print" option for all articles on their site which allowed the reader to view the article with no ads, etc... They removed that quite a while back.

Additionally, their content has gone to pot. Stories about the sex lives of "celebrities", the latest "crotch bling" for "ladies" (I did check their site yesterday), etc... No thanks. I'll continue to stick with getting my news here at FR. FYNYP and FYJP.

Funny that he would use that because she realized last night that Snow is much more than he seems to be.
