Just when you thought all the possible microaggression scenarios humanly possible had been called out, more pop up.
The latest offensives to avoid come courtesy of The New School, a private university in New York City. It has published an extensive list of microinsults, microassaults and microinvalidations to avoid, including ones specific to academia, like this one:
Seats in the classroom / auditorium / office are too small for many people.
Additional academic setting micros on The New Schools list include food sold in the cafeteria does not include options for those with limited food budgets, being called overly sensitive when addressing a microaggression, bathrooms and locker rooms labeled Male or Female, and faculty and classmates do not ask for gender pronouns.

Well, just put up a little sign in the cafeteria that says:
Browsing on the grass outside is free.
(Oops, cows will arrest me for mooaggression.)
Why is “cafeteria only having expensive food” in this list? Unlike the nonsense about “male” and “female” signs on bathrooms that could very well be a legitimate complain.
I’ll go one better than that. How about seats that are designed for right handed people? Left handed people - the invisible minority. The only minority it’s still OK to discriminate against. Where are my reparations? I’ve been victimized, traumatized, brutalized, stigmatized, and micro-aggressed.
Why are they in school if everything sets them off?
LOL!
Any price > $0 not fair.
All goods must be free of charge
Hey, at least she had the courtesy to sit in the back row to do that. I taught a class once, where every class period a young woman came in and sat in the front row in the very center, and as soon as I started class, she’d put her head on her desk and fall asleep. She was sitting about 4 feet from me. She did that the whole semester. It was hilarious! Needless to say, her “participation” grade wasn’t the best...
Why are either of those kids anywhere NEAR a McDonalds’s? That is child abuse.
If one microorganism offends another, is that a picoaggression?
I felt this way for a long time, figuring the tiny spaces were to accommodate various ‘developing nation’ pygmies and runts.
I had a jr high student who got stuck in her desk and couldn’t get out. The other kids laughed at her, of course, and she was pissed. She finally worked her way out of the desk and didn’t miss the bus home. I tried to find her a desk less likely to trap her.
Another time a very small for his age kid got stuck in a desk. He had tried to work his way through the large hole in the back of the desk (much like the desk with the girl sleeping on it). He was that kind of kid. Anyhow he got stuck and the janitor was called to try and extract him. By this time everyone was standing around waiting to see what would happen. He finally came out of the back of the desk and plopped onto the floor. A kid said “It’s a baby boy!” Cracked everyone up.
Same here. I’m a left-handed, redheaded female. You don’t see me crying about all the doors that are hung backward or notebooks with the spirals on the wrong side. I just suck it up and adapt.
I have a friend who was teaching statistics at 8 in the morning. One of the kids fell sound asleep. He told a student sitting near him to wake him up.
According to my friend the student replied, “you put him to sleep, you wake him up.”
