Millennials are losing their faith and replacing it with pizza, pushups and profound digital connections.
Just 27 to 28 percent of people in their 20s and early 30s attend religious services regularly, according to the latest figures from the Pew Research Center. Compare that to the 38 percent of baby boomers who log time in houses of worship, and 51 percent of folks in the silent and greatest generations who still show up for services.
Instead, millennials are getting their spiritual fix from secular pursuits such as fitness classes and Facebook groups — community-driven activities that create a sense of fellowship, inspire meaningful reflection and sometimes include uplifting music.
“They were raised to think for themselves,” says New York University sociology professor Mike Hout. “Millennials are skeptical of authority, including religious institutions.” They’re also redefining sacred rituals on their own terms, as these stories show.

I’ve read statistics that said traditionally these age brackets have never been the heavy church going type. Religious attendance goes up when young people get married.

Not really. The Bible is a missive on how to think. Learning it arms one to think critically. Otherwise the men who held to it could not have built the greatest and fairest civilization ever to occupy the earth.
First off, going to church is not what saves your soul.
Second, kids have always been rebellious. It’s the so-called “organized” Christian denominations that have deteriorated more than kids in recent times.
As a onetime Catholic, I’d say half the time the current pope is on dope. And most the times I see Catholic-oriented threads on FR, the topic is so full of legalisms as to make me think they are arguing over which is better, the Sad-you-sees or the Unfair-isees.
Several other denoms apparently don’t think sin is sin, so why go to church to learn what is sin? Or the equally ridiculous notion that once saved your future sins are already forgiven.
In general, Christian churches in America don’t concentrate on what was meant to be their primary function anyway: teaching. At the rate they cover text in the bible, if at all, your butt would have to be in that pew until your bones turn back to dust in order to hear the whole of His word.
Get the book. Find a decent preacher or two on TV or the internet who help you understand what you are reading. Also, if you can find one, join a decent church for the edification and community aspects.
And remember Christ’s most common criticism:
“Have you not read?”
You can try but it isn’t against the law not to go Church or worship any God.
“Seconded.”
Yes, the main point is to study and learn for yourself.
Using other folks and resources as needed, naturally.
The whole of Christianity revolves around the notion that you are responsible for yourself. You don’t need corrupt temple leaders or high priests to forgive you. You don’t need an army of Catholic generals declaring this and that.

The RC hierarchy reminds me of Republicans on the Hill - they ALL know the truth of Freedom but they argue constantly and endlessly about the legal/social applications of it. Instead of just teaching and defending it.
Analogous to Christ and the veil, the Declaration of Independence rent the constraints of central authority over God-given individual liberty. This aspect is what makes us a “Christian” nation, NOT the simple fact that most citizens are Christian.
Just imagine, Christ was admonishing folks with “have you not read” back when extremely few could even read and essentially nobody had personal copies of the scrolls/texts. Which is partly why Israel had long-running get-togethers/feasts - so all could hear the words which were written up to at that time.
What’s He gonna say to folks sitting in pews and singing songs (not that those are wrong) but not reading anything on their own? Especially when the texts - OT and NT, translated or not, large print, audio, video, etc - are all out there for anybody and everybody. For free, online, on TV and whatever.
Those being led astray by liberal and other misguided churches are going to have a difficult time blaming ignorance on lack of access.
No grasp of eternal life? I wonder how they will fare at the moment of their death -—— not well in my estimation.

Get rid of the pedophile priests, the homosexual “marriages”, the begging for more and more money to support the mega million dollar facilities, the...I could go on and on, but church isn’t church anymore.
I lived next to four churches on the corner, yes four, and the hypocrites would cut you off in traffic then flip you off on the away in. Wife called it hypocrite hour.
**As a onetime Catholic**
You are always a Catholic if you were baptized in the Catholic Church. That mark of baptism is on your soul.
You can come back to the Catholic Church any time. Just make an appointment with a priest and get your questions (gripes) answered.
PS. There have been bad Popes before and the Church has survived. It will this time, too.

They sound like innocent young folk compared to when I was that age and what was going on.

I was days old at the time.
It may be considered a good work regarding my parents. And, yes, I was confirmed in 8th grade Catholic school.
But baptism, whether Catholic or not, means absolutely nothing to a baby which has no idea what’s going on beyond the fact that some guy wearing a dress and mumbling words I can’t understand is pouring cold water on my head.
If it is not done voluntarily and with knowledge, it means squat to one’s soul. To suggest otherwise is quite un-Christian and illogical. Otherwise you could just go around with a big squirt gun and a megaphone saving souls in Saudi Arabia.
I don’t have to meet with any priest. I’ve been through it all: Catholic schooling, alter boy, an aunt who was a nun, the full nine yards.
I understand Catholics have this Muslim-like thinking about never having free will after the involuntary baptism. And I don’t regret the schooling in general because it was much better than the public school. And you can feel free to keep me on the roster if it helps you somehow.
Catholics have done some great things in history between internal squabbles and legalism mumbo jumbo. But nobody is required to be Catholic in order to be saved.
Some advice, whatever it is worth to you... include the mention of later, knowledge-driven and VOLUNTARY confirmation as evidence that somebody actually joined your club. The baby thing, with all due respect is... well... infantile.
Christ rent the veil. No pope, socialist or not, can sew it back up.
